Default Starting Something You Can't Finish

About a year ago I started a 1962 topps Football set.

I did this set on my own, without my son, as he was doing one of the Philadelphia sets.

After he completed his Philly set, we tried to do the 62 set together, but he lost interest when we started the 72 topps baseball set that he is still trying to complete.

So I am back to trying this set on my own, while he does his 72 Baseball.
However I am quickly losing hope and patience with it as there are just so many high high $$$$ cards in it.

So my question is, is there any sets that you just gave up on and moved on, and if so, when did you know it was time?

When I have quit on a set it is because I realize it would be smarter to sell of the partial set I've accumulated and buy a complete set instead. For instance, I was building a 1970 topps baseball set. I had not a lot into it but knew completing it would run about 800 total, about 600 more. I sold what I had already for about 200 and bought a complete set for 600, which saved me 200 dollars as opposed to completing my partial. Maybe this would be a good solution to the 62 football set.

There's a good lot on the BST board right now for 57 Topps football.

I’d recommend putting a set on the back burner first. It helps to delete all your eBay searches or any other searches you use so you can take a real break from seeing the cards for a while. You mentioned the high priced star player cards, but my experience has been chasing all the commons can drain enthusiasm as well. The 48 Leaf is an example of both - the rare high numbers are the toughest, but they were mostly college players at the time and from what I recall except for Bednarick and Nomellini, they didn’t have significant pro careers and my main interest is NFL history, so the set isn’t a great match for me - still keeping it on the back burner though.

I've pretty much given up on my Heisman auto collection. Kinnick is just too cost prohibitive.

Not to mention the checklist and Zeke Bratkowski card.

I'm that way with the 26 Spalding and 35 Chicle set. Been close but never quite done.
