I was actually about to bid more than the winning bid -- but upon seeing all the multiple bids by those with feedbacks of 1, 2, and 3, I decided against it. Who would have thought such an esoteric card would bring out so many new ebayers!

I don't think a T213-2 Cobby is very esoteric. I stand by my first assertation though.... As I mentoned in my initial post I think all T213's are undervalued relative to their scarcity. I didn't even look at the other bidders but the winner is a friend and (sometimes) board member. He knew exactly what he was doing....This card is a great looking "2". best regards

Leon, the T213 Cobb is certainly esoteric -- when compared to the T206 version. And certainly not the kind of card a number of virtual first-time ebayers would be looking to snag as their entry into the vintage card hobby.

Leon,

Interesting sideline to the Card for the contest. My great great uncle (Elmer Miller) knew Miller Huggins quite well. Huggins was his manager in 1912 when he plated for St. Louis. When Huggins became the manager for the Yankees, My Elmer Miller followed him the the Yankees as the center fielder. Weird coincidence the I win the card. I think so.

Ken

Ken- Neat story thanks for sharing.....Glad you won it too. Only $1.11 off is pretty remarkable.

First of all your first sentence is exactly what I am referring to when I say they are undervalued relative to their scarcity. Thanks for agreeing with me...We almost always agree.. (insert some bizarre smiley face)

Secondly, what you are saying is that because they have 0, or low feedback, they are novice "first-time" ebayers, correct?

with all due humbleness ,

Leon, it just seems to me that if you're just starting on ebay to collect vintage baseball cards you're probably not going to run to a T213 when there are so many T206s around. And yet there were 3-4 of these virgin ebayers running up the bids. I just sold a bunch of T206s and T205s and 19th Century cards, some featuring HOFers. None of the dozens of bids I received were from ebayers with 0-3 feedback. I'm not making an accusation here but it does look bizarre -- which is why I stopped bidding on the auction.

So are the cobb red portrait and the bat off pose the only 2 cobb poses in the coupon series 2 set? Is cobb the only player represented on 2 cards in the coupon set?

Pete- As I recall only the bat off and red portraits in the three Coupon sets.
Actually Hooks Wiltse has 6 variations in the 1914 Coupon set- 3 different teams for each of two poses, portrait and pitching. Many cards have multiple poses and team names but Wiltse has the most.
