Default Hunt Auction 1952 Topps Mantle. What'll it go for?

Bets on where this beauty ends? Will it being a late addition to the auction mean it goes for less? Best one I have seen in a spell.

Mickey Mantle

That's a pretty low grade for a very nice looking Mantle.

Wish I could read some details on it.

I am guessing at least $45,000 but likely a lot higher than that?

I'd be pretty upset if I'd consigned the ugly sgc 55 touted as lot #1/with no Mantle's in the auction... and a stunning sgc 60 is added later.

Ouch

My guess is that it breaks the high estimate with no problem. It currently at $35,000, and high estimate is $50,000. I could honestly see it bringing much more. Someone on here can probably figure out how much owner into card for, assuming they bought it graded already. If owner got it graded, who knows how much they paid for it raw.

The effect could go either way, and it may attract some extra eyes. If mine were the 55 I don't think I'd mind. Perhaps someone who come to bid on the nicer one but is priced out might end up placing a bid on it.

Have to agree....these are like Red Cobbs, very much a buyer for all of them at market prices. I don't think either affect each other much....but I wish I had an extra 50k as the 5 is really nice...

Am I reading that right, that the next bid has to be in an increment no less than $4,000.00 dollars?
Is this the norm with most auctions or just this one?

Yeap, probably 10% increments which are pretty good size jumps....

I think the 1952 Mantle will go 50,000 to 55.000 due to the nice centering which is always tough,

Saw that. There are cards and then there are centered cards. Two totally different animals. With different price guides.

I do find it difficult to search on Hunt. It doesn't seem very user friendly. That is an awesome Mantle though. I was hoping the bidding would stay a little lower.

1/2 point difference (quantity, not perceived quality) and the difference is 4-fold... or $34,000. And that's with a week of bidding still to go.

Despite the similar grade those to cards aren't even close. I would gladly pay 50k for the 5 and wouldn't pay 20k for the 4.5. Eye appeal is everything these days on a Mantle and centered examples are hard to find.

I completely 100% agree. I tried to say that by stating the quantity is 1/2 point, but the actual quality is far past that.

I would definitely feel cheated a bit to have a more superb example thrusted into the auction late without my consent. But then again, maybe someone who wouldnt win the 5 may take a stab at the 4.5.

Who the hell has this kind of money?

Is the Hunt example better than the one featured in the REA catalog I got today?

There are a few up at REA, and better is a relative term. I would rather have the SGC 7.5 or PSA 6 up at REA than this one, but the Hunt example is centered better than any of the REA Mantles.

As a collector, I would take the Hunt over the higher grades in REA because I would notice the centering more than the corners.

Especially with 1952 Topps cards. They have those big white borders and when the centering is great the image just pops.

Looks like we were all low on the estimate as this one is up to 70k now with BP. I guess it makes sense after the centered SGC 4 just closed at over 50k. They might have to come out with a new VCP category or price list for centered Mantles.

Holy Cow!

In making a "Dead Centered 1952 Topps Mantle Price Guide," we have these current prices I have been tracking lately:

SGC 5 - $70,000 + ??? (still in progress) Hunt April 2016
PSA 4 - $70,000 (private sale) April 2016
PSA 6 - $133,000 - Goodwin Feb 2016 * not even dead centering, worth noting
SGC 4 - $53,775 - Goldin Jan 2016
