Default T205 HOF Basic Set - COMPLETE!!!

Hey All!
Just completed my T205 HOF basic set (25/25)!!! I have them posted on the SGC registry (link below). I started with 6 HOF cards I inherited from my Grandpappy. I began in earnest to collect the other 19 in 2012. I have been working on obtaining the others in the set since then. As you know some are hard to come by even in rough condition.
I would like to thank fellow board members for the many sales/auctions/trades to help me achieve this goal!
I am on a tight budget so it is a low end set but still required two years and $2351 to complete (about $95/card). Regardless I love the cards in the set and the stories that go behind acquiring each beauty. I have them displayed nicely on the wall in my office.

Thanks again for the contributors on the board!
Cliff

Congratulations Cliff and welcome to the T205 club. We have a rather small membership as most prefer T206s, so it's nice to see a fellow board member join. Are you thinking about completing the basic set now that you have the more expensive ones out of the way?

I finished my master set (minus the Hoblitzell) last year, that took me almost 6 years to complete. Here was my thread http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=175669

Default Nice work Cliff

Welcome aboard from another T205 fanatic !
I'm done with set #1 basic, gathered enough variations to be just a few cards short of Master ( Hobby no stats might never happen), and I have enough left over to start basic set #2, which I am working on the list this long weekend

To me they are the best old baseball card set. The Colors, Bios, Backs, Variations, big name HOFers, AL , NL and ML front differences to break it up... The list of good things about this set is long!

Good luck if you decide to continue on with the rest of the set

Default HOF Set Complete!

Thanks guys! always nice to be recognized by your peers! I appreciate the comments...

Leon, for sure the thrill is in the hunt, was nice to meet you at the National. thanks again for this awesome venue to connect with like minded collectors. I would not have been able to accomplish this set without fellow members offering needed cards at friends and family pricing.

Steve - I was fortunate to start the set with 6 "freebies" from Grandpap otherwise would have for sure been over $2500. I do love the lithograpy on this set, the Bio's are a great snippet of history from the era. I have completed a Pirates team set (T205) as well, but I think that is as far as I will get with the gold borders.

I had quite a few commons I sold or traded to build the HOF set. Based upon the baseball cards I inherited, Grandpa was obviously a "Mecca Man" and that is where I am going to stay. I completed a basic double folder set and am still working on uprading and studying that set. I admit I am obsessed with the double folders, which are even less popular than the gold borders, but I still love'm.

I scored a bunch more folders at the National and am compiling another set. I think I have some exciting discoveries with regard to the set, but I will save that for another post.

thanks again for the Comments!!

Cliff
