Thanks Matt...

I missed it the first time, so I was happy to get it now. Did not think that it was going to happen, but it fits in with my other negro leaguers, so I am pretty stoked about it!

Default Nothing like that Jeter bat, but...

Always wanted to add a Yasiel Puig gamer to my collection. I think he is really funny to watch, plus when he connects, he can send one to the moon.

So naturally, I bought one from a seller on ebay who had no COA and some sketchy feedback. That's ok, right? He threw in some game used (and signed) gloves too!

Seriously, I sent it off to PSA, and it turned out the seller was legit!

Probably Fed Ex/UPS, covered by their insurance policy, but some things just can’t be replaced...

Off eBay I picked up this Dugout Lineup card (written in manager Earl Weaver's hand) from Cal Ripken Jr.'s rookie season of 1982...I had to do a little research to determine it was from the game of 08/02/82 vs. Boston

Glad someone here won that. I was watching it and planned on putting down a serious bid (quite a bit higher than it sold for), but mistook when the auction ended and totally missed bidding. Very cool piece!

Default Vintage Wrigley Field Chicago Cubs Ushers Cap

Guessing its 1940's or 1950's (not in hand yet) although they had them in the 1930's and 1960's too, but for the 60's the style & wording changed. They actually started in Wrigley in 1928.

Seems to match up pretty well with the ones in the 1938 Homer in the Gloamin' by Gabby Hartnett at Wrigley Field pix and the 1945 World Series with Detroit and the Billy Goat Curse pix.

Again, I've seen the "newer" 1960's and 1970's style cap at auction before, but not this older version.

Great, great stuff Paul and Dave! The ushers were really decked out in those days. It looks like they had military-like “rank.”

I picked up this July 14, 1933 SF Seals ticket stub in the recent Mears Auction. This is the game that an 18-year old Joe DiMaggio got a hit in his 50th straight game to break the PCL hit streak record. He would go on to hit in 61 straight games that season. I thought it was a pretty cool Joe DiMaggio related ticket from the hit streak before the hit streak. Seems like it was pretty common for his last name to get misspelled that year. Even the watch the Mayor of SF game him had his name spelled DeMaggio.

From what I could gather this ticket stub was part of a pair of stubs from this game that originated from the DiMaggio family collection and sold by Hunt Auctions in 2006. Another ticket from this game was sold in a separate lot in the same auction and those are the only 3 tix that have surfaced from this particular game.

The Gibson went for $240K in Heritage. I forgot about Corey's stuff - how could I?

I'm still wondering how, with my meager collecting budget, I'm not constantly jealous of these guys!

Hey guys.. never really considered myself in that “class”, but it is a ton to spend on a piece of wood, no doubt. The last time it sold it went for like 350k, so I felt fortunate. It takes a pretty understanding wife, that is for sure. She confiscated it when it arrived to give it to me for my birthday - which is next week. So I haven’t even seen it. The huge shipping charge was for insurance. Next week I will post some pictures. No police escort. Just a FEDEX box.

You got a great deal and you have a great birthday coming up next week. Which reminds me, my gf's is today. I should have about $239,900 left after this afternoon's purchase!

Not real thrilling, but kind of interesting...

While they both pitched for the Giants, John Montefusco and John D'Aquisto owned a restaurant for a short time. "The Count" was 1975 ROY, threw a no-no in 1976 and hit a HR in his first MLB AB. A'Quisto's claim to fame is that he was the only guy to throw 100mph besides Nolan Ryan, in those days.

Both Johns ended up in Federal prison. Montefusco did two years for spousal abuse before he was cleared and D'Aquisto did 5+ years for investment fraud. A'Quisto later earned his PhD and turned his life around.

Beside the menu, I have their postcard and a matchcover.

Default 1961

I have been collecting Cincinnati Reds game used bats, uniforms, equipment, awards, contracts etc… of players from the 1961 World Series team for some time. Last year I picked up some tough bats (not a function of price, but availability as most would consider them obscure players). I have also acquired some artifacts from Yankee Stadium from that same time period, as well as Yankee uniform items. It occurred to me that I had yet to add a game used bat for a significant 1961 Yankee…at about that same time, I saw this Maris bat was coming to auction. It killed me to move the items I did (good Brooklyn Dodger and New York Giants stuff is still selling strong), but I am very happy with the decision I made. This bat helps to fill out the context of the 1961 World Series, and the larger 1961 season as well.
