Default Interesting baseball busts - need your help!

Hi Guys!

We (Inside the Park Collectibles) just picked up a consignment of baseball player bust statues that originally came from the estate of Eddie Stanky. The players are Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Ralph Kiner, Alvin Dark, Vern Stephens and Eddie Stanky(see pictures below). They range in size from 6" tall (Ruth) to 5" tall for all of the rest. They are all marked Pettito Studio on the verso side. They appear to be a paper-mache composition.

I'm speculating that the smaller busts may have been prototypes for candy containers. Petito did make a Jackie Robinson and Ted Williams plastic containers in the early 50's(see last Williams below). We also know that there was a bust of Vern Stephens issued in the 50's. If any of you have any information about these busts, please let me know.

We will be featuring these busts in our August 2012 auction. We also have an auction ending tomorrow night (Friday June 29). Please visit our web site at: www.insidetheparkcollectibles.com

Thanks!
Lou

Hi Lou!

Here's a thread from a while back, and it also contains a nice link to an article about them.

Very neat stuff Lou...

Can't wait to see your August Catalogue with these included. It's getting hard to find new vintage Figural material (if the term "new vintage" even makes sense!)

After reading the title of this thread I was expecting it to be about Brien Taylor, Jerome Walton, Phil Plantier, Kevin Maas and THOSE busts.....
