Default Mickey Mantle Painting - Frame Help Needed

Around 1993, my father purchased the painting below of a 1952 Topps Mantle - its quite large (about 45 inches tall). The signature portion was blank and our intentions were to have Mickey sign the painting. Unfortunately, Mantle passed away before we ever had the opportunity, so the painting sat "unsigned" for the next 19 years. Earlier this year, my father gave me the painting as a gift and I asked my uncle to paint Mantle's facsimile signature to match the true card (I think he did an amazing job replicating the size and look, BTW).

So, here's my question - what color frame would the board recommend? I had originally thought I would do white to match the card border. Then I thought Yankee blue, or possible road gray (to match the uniform color). What do you think?!

Great painting- personally I would do a black frame.

Cool painting, Jon. And you're right about the signature - it's spot on!

I think I agree with Matt on this one, black would look beautiful. Or, if you want to go with a more classic look, I think a cherry wood would also work quite well. I think either would just set off the painting so much nicer than a lighter frame.

Of course, that's just my own opinion...

Wow... great job on the signature portion. What your Uncle did is much more fitting (and nicer, IMO) than a modern Mantle autograph would have been.

Looks great, and I agree that a black frame would probably work best.

Depends on where you are displaying the painting and room color. However, black would be very sharp
