Default Goudey 1933 PSA 8 prices tonight

Big run at PWCC on eBay and highest prices in past couple years for most of the many commons (plus some HOFers). Highest-graded commons going for $750 or more, and others with maybe 1 or 2 higher for $550. Is that just the PWCC factor? But prices were even far higher than in last PWCC a few weeks ago. So is recent uptick for the 8s real?

I don't think its an uptick. I think it is a PWCC phenomenon. Any other seller wouldn't get those prices. For example, on one of the cards I track (A 1948 Leaf Lou Bodreau rookie), PWCC has a PSA 7 sell for for $541. VCP on the card is $130. If the winning bidder was to hold the card and sell it himself on Ebay in 3 months, NO WAY does that card break $200. Now, if he consigned it back to PWCC, all bets are off.

Well, as I noted, the prices were even quite a big higher than the last PWCC on the Goudey 1933 8s, so something happened in interim...Had noticed uptick beyond that for a few months...

Just curious - Why would anybody pay more for a given card based only on the seller? I understand trusting the seller is important, but I would think this would have minimal impact for graded cards.

I bought a T206 PSA-4 & a 6 from PWCC last night. I do think trust enters into it. Doing my research on the dealer helps also. While I would not pay more just because of who I'm purchasing from, if I did not feel comfortable with the seller, I would not buy at all, regardless of price.

There were plenty of PWCC bargains to be had as well last night. I'm not saying there may or may not be shilling in some auctions by the consignors, but when he's got 8,000 auctions going at once, there certainly will be some items selling high, and some selling low.

I've noticed that the PSA 8 commons for the "scarcer" low number Goudey 1933s always sell much higher than other PSA 8 commons--even though in many cases the pop report shows they are NOT "scarcer." Is this just because folks go on past prices--or because they figure nearly all of the high-end low numbers have already been graded while others will keep showing up?
