Default DiMaggio and Williams - Opinions Needed

I want to put this item onto the BST but am a bit unsure about the DiMaggio. I am not as familiar with his signature from late in his life, and this one may have been a rush job to boot.

The media is a large sized folder commemorating Ted Williams career with the Red Sox that was given away as part of a day celebrating both he and DiMaggio on the 50th anniversary of their 1941 seasons. Williams famously tipped a Red Sox cap at the ceremony.

DiMaggio was supposedly in quite a hurry that day so if this signature of his is authentic, it could have been added at a later date or could have been signed by him in a rush.

Thanks for any help.

Tom C

How certain are you the Joe D is bad?

Admittedly Joe D is not my specialty, but it looks decent to me... and it seems to stretch the imagination to think someone would add a bad Joe D (in Sharpie) to the item full of presumably good signatures. Especially considering the Joe D adds little to the piece.

Is it just me or is there the tail end of another DiMaggio in the scan with the one in question? If so, why the difference in signatures if signed the same day? Just curious.

Steve, the Dimaggio in question in my opinion is not authentic. space between m and a gg's not correct. I just dont like it. It would add price to the piece. I will look for ward to what Joe D thinks.

That other one is the tail end of Dom. He signed it as well.

Shelly,

Could he have been in a rush when he signed it, and could that be the reason for the space not looking good? Or is it a more fundamental difference that even a rushed attempt at a signature cannot explain.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Here is what the piece as a whole looks like. Pretty large at around 12x16.

Shelly does not need my endorsement but I agree, DiMaggio is no good.

Tom, if it was rushed some of his signiture should look good. I am not happy with the m as well.
This the problem of seeing so many sit down signitures. When you get a signiture from a player on the run it can sure make you think it is not authentic.

This was my thought as well. I don't like the look of it, but if rushed..maybe...?? Some of it looks ok, some not so much.

I'll most likely list it as having a questionable Joe D.

Shelly is correct, but to put it even clearer, if it needs be
considering this was supposedly signed in 1991-93 era, there is no way possible that was signed by Joe DiMaggio
I saw 36,000 items signed by him in that exact era, and not one came out like that

Also, from what I have read of the actual event, Joe D pretty much came straight to the event, didn't even talk to his own former teammates who were there for an old timers game, went stright to the field, did the ceremony, and went straight to his car which took him to the airport.

So if that sequence makes it unlikely that he signed anything at the event, it would leave only that it was signed at a later date. If that is the case, it was most likely done at a "sit down" type of event.

As Shelly and Ken have posted, they have seen many such sit down signatures and none looked like this one. Therefore it does seem that this is not an authentic signature of The Yankee Clipper, and I will advertise it as such.

I do have to also note, however, that the item was passed in full as authentic by JSA, even though it is believed that the Joe D is not.

Again, many thanks to everyone. It confirmed my own suspicions.
