Over $3,000 with about 2 hours left? Am I missing something?

<Edited to change "nearing" to "over" $3,000>

Two bidders are fighting over it. It's not worth more than $1,200, but these two are not letting the other get it.

I bid close to 200% (according to the mlbvintage site) on 3 items (all T206s) and yet this guy has beaten me out all 3 times. Do I have to win the lottery or something just to compete?

I agree.

That wasn't worth more than $1,200.

And I put an SGC Authentic Demmit that went for just a $330. My auction closed just days before that one --- and after selling a Demmitt for just over 300 bucks, watching that one end was a little painful.

btw, what would you think the value on a Demmitt Authentic is? Did mine sell low/high/just right?

thanks.

This is one of my first few posts but I also am feeling the sting of these new bidders... I bid high on a PSA 3 New York Throwing Doyle last night and mwasserman23 won the card for a very high price as well.

But it's not as bad as Triggerfishes. I bid high and lost a 3-Finger PSA 3 Portrait to him on Sunday Night in the last 5 seconds...

Then I bid high on another PSA 3 Brown Portrait last night... AND LOST TO TRIGGERFISHES AGAIN IN THE LAST 5 SECONDS. The Same exact card!!!!!

I was ready to throw my computer through the window, but I refuse to get into a battle with these people.

...have beat me on auctions recently, as well. Unfortunately, it only takes one or two additional ebay bidders to shift the market on vintage cards. You have to adjust the value upwards in your head in order to beat them. I have thus far been quite reluctant to do so.

But these bidders are nuts. 2nd place might as well be last place on Ebay.

OK, is the results of this ebay lot an "anamoly", or does this set a new
"benchmark", or threshold for a low-grade Demmitt ?

Furthermore, how does this affect the value of my Demmitt when I go to sell
it at Philly in May....if that one went for 3.5K+ ?

Ebay is a total crap-shoot. Some items are ridiculously overpriced and sell, others go for peanuts. Simply a matter of chance. The nice thing w/T206s is that all but the very rarest are readily available and if you are patient you will find one to your liking. Now, lose a tough regional and it hurts because you know it may be years before you see one again.

like Adam said, don't sweat these new guys. They are on a buying binge right now. Sellers are enjoying and others working on the set are hating it, but there are huge number t206s out there. Once they get the cards they want, things will settle down again.

If you've got the money and don't mind taking the risk, you can always run up their bids and make them pay top dollar for the cards they do buy. I remember when I was putting together my N2 Indian set. I could get NM examples for $25 or so. This new guy shows up and figured out his max bid was always $125 for high grade cards. Each time I saw him bid, I drop in a $124 and max him out. He put together a nice set, but it cost him about 4 times what it cost me and prices settled back down after he finished his set.

actually, the trick is to never bid the same amount all the time. I catch on to patterns real fast and use it to my advantage. I've learned all sorts of tricks in my roughly 10 years on eBay.
