Default 1956 Topps Team Card Variations

Does anyone know or have a theory on the order the cards were printed?

My though is the dated cards were printed first but were confusing having the prior year's date. Then the date was removed but that left too much blank space. So, they ended up with the team name centered and kept that the same for the other series.

That seems to be the consensus. Now you have to consider the various white and gray back variations in the mix.

For #11 Cubs, COMC has the following:
1) With 1955, white back (their 11.3)
2) No 1955, white back (11.5)
3) No 1955, gray back (11.2)
4) Centered, white back (11.4)
5) Centered, gray back (11.1)

I think the 1955 dated cards only come in white backs.

Today at our local monthly show I went and purchased the remainder of the rub offs the dealer had at $1 each 28 rub offs total including 12 with the different backs (all 12 of these were team emblems)
