Default Soccer Cards

Hey ... when did soccer cards become part of the forum??? I've been collecting soccer cards for a few years and will post some of my cooler ones over the next little while. Very happy to see this forum ... have been part of baseball and hockey forums for years and must have overlooked this one.

Personally I love the vintage soccer stuff and would love for Beckett to do a guide that would cover some of the vintage issues. Also, would it kill SMR to do a article on soccer cards? They always include an article on some dopey non sports card set. ( I'm not looking to disrespect non sport collectors, but it is SPORTS Market Report )

Default soccer card guide

There is a vintage soccer card guide in the works. It is supposed to be an e-book coming out in fall of 2012.

Dave, I'm with you! I mean anything, at least if not a list of every player and price value at least a listing of what year the set was made ( or approx year ) a photo of a sample card and how many cards are in the set. I never played soccer, but it is the most popular sport in the world ( I do live in NJ, but I truly feel that even in the US it is fairly popular ) Soccer cards are a sleeping giant in my opinion and the vintage issues don't get near the respect they deserve! I'd like to see PSA step up and do an article of vintage Pele cards.

i honestly do not have the time necessary to investigate 100's of different sets/years ........ but i do have quite a bit of info on pre-1950. (not really anything i discovered, just stuff i have complied from around the net)

maybe we should start a new thread and give this a "go"???

if each of us list our known years/sets and post a pic i bet we could put one heck of a list up??

it would be helpful to many people, and possibly help promote soccer/footballer collecting.

Hey Guys,

I have been collecting sports cards since 1967, and started with soccer in the early 1990s. Here are 2 sites that may assist you:

http://cards.littleoak.com.au
www.soccercardindex.com

The Australian site is run by a collector named Nigel Mercer and it covers all (or nearly all) English and Scottish issues from 1965 - 1980. There are photos of most of the cards, complete checklists, card wrappers, boxes, stories, etc.

Soccer card index is maintained by a Norwegian collector and has many , many checklists of newer issues from all over the world. He has recently added 3 1970s Topps English sets from Nigel's site, and is always updating with new sets from the UK, Spain, Germany, etc.

I hope this helps, as I am also constantly looking for more soccer card info.

Jeff

i know nothing ..... so i figured i'd play "the hero" and do some internet searching and find them for you ..... no luck.

BUT ..... while looking for your cards i stumbled on a soccer card forum, set up an account, and made a post to see if anyone else knows.

they dont have very many members......... so i'm not sure if i'll get any info.

Re: Value

Generally speaking, these Monty Gum cards aren't "common." So, that raises the value a bit. But, they are fairly obscure. So, there aren't that many people collecting them. That lowers the value a bit. A couple of bucks a card, probably, to the right buyer. Platini, Maradona, etc. (the bigger names from the set) might command a bit more. Wish I could be a bigger help.

Alan

I collect rookie cards from all sports and did quite a bit of searching until I found a pele rookie. Originally I got a 64 panini thinking that was his rookie but soon found out he had several cards from 58 that were produced in brazil and Europe. I always thought it would be an interesting topic for smr to do an article on pele and Ali rookies.

I have a line on another of the '65 Crack Golazo Pele cards. Should have it some time in the next 30-45 days available for sale or trade. Also have a Lev Yashin from '67 coming in for my collection.
