Default E-BAY AUCTION- T205 and T206 pricing.....

Posted By: cn

I was following 2 auctions that ended on E-Bay yesterday a T206 Green Cobb SGC 40 that ended at $2551 and a T206 Johnson Portrait SGC 40 that ended at $909. Is it just my perception but it seems that the price of these 2 cards have doubled in the past year. Since the same person won both cards I am wondering if these prices are realistic or is it a case of just one person running up the price? CN

Those two cards are beautiful irrespective of the grades. The winner bought the cards and not the holders. That Cobby looks like a 6 from the scan...probably a somewhat unnoticable blemish somewhere....

Johnson portraits have skyrocketed in the last six months. A few graded examples (PSA 2's and SGC 30's) in the past two weeks have approached $400. Two years ago those same cards might have fetched low $200's. As for your examples, Leon is correct, the cards present much better than their respective grades.

T206 prices are through the roof, particularly for

Cobb Green
Johnson Portrait
Matty Portrait
Young Portrait

About two years ago a Cobb Green PSA 4 / SGC 50 would fetch about $1500; now $3000+. Young Portrait PSA 4 /SGC 50 would fetch about $500; now $1000+. Similar trends for Johnson Portrait and Matty Portrait. Over a two year time horizon I would say your "doubling" estimate is spot-on.

Both cards had a crease. It was hard to see from the scan, and I noticed that he skirted the question when asked (read his question/answer blurb). From my experience SGC will not grade a card with a crease above a 40. Those went for big money considering the condition and that they are available all the time. I guess a '52 Mantle is also available all the time, but I don't understand those prices either.

You think those cards have skyrocketed, look at the prices for E94s, E97s and E98s from 2005 to 2006!

I haven't added the trending and graphing to the site yet, but I can tell you that just going through the database I see an average 23% increase on the same cards (player, back, grading co.,grade) IN JUST THE LAST QUARTER!

It is amazing to see how many people are going after these cards -- so anyway the site is http://www.t206.net and I'm working on addressing all of these questions with real data, analysis, and transparency.

And yes, it is conceivable that they have doubled in just one year.

Best,

ds

Now that I have money again, I've start tracking lots of cards and t206s in general have jumped pretty well. Beatter lots used to had for less than $10/card. Now, the bid is jumping past range in the first day and closing in the $15/card range. Guess I'll be staying away from t206s and buying other, more obscure stuff.

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home, I would be arrested. So, I go to baseball games and fit right in.
