Default Memory Lane Auctions - Lot 961 - Bob Mathews??

Posted By: Tom Hufford

Wonder what it is about this photo that identifies it as Bob Mathews, a one game player with the 1891 Philadelphia AA team?

If it is "Bobby Mathews", I think it would most probably be the Bobby Mathews that played 1871-1887. Besides, the fellow with the 1891 Philadelphia AA team was Charles Matthews, not Bob Mathews.

I would say its Bobby Mathews since its looks exactly like him and he played for the Athletics for a good while and the chances of another guy looking exactly like him getting pictured while playing just one game in the majors is very unlikely unless the picture was taken prior to the season like a team picture.Matthews played just one game in September,an unlikely time to get together for team pics

BTW Charles Matthews used to be identified as Robert Matthews but his last name also has 2 T's unlike the spelling in the auction title
