Default Change in SGC grading fees

Posted By: Rob D.

Maybe this is old news. I just saw the announcement tonight on SGC's site.

Letter of explanation

New fee schedule

Rob - I had not seen this; 50% hike on the tier I use most (from $10 to $15).

I was hoping they would reduce the price required on T3s, but it's still at $50.

Here's hoping that SGC will take some of the additional revenue and hire someone to return phone messages and e-mails. I must be batting less than .200 lifetime (including 0-for-3 over the past two weeks) in having phone messages returned.

I most often used Express because it was the minimum service for custom inserts and carried a 10 day turnaround. They now have a 1900-1947 for $10 with 15 day turnaround that is the minimum level for custom inserts. It is still $10 but the turnaround is now 15 days.

Jeff - the other difference is that the max card value on the $10 service is $250 - the Express (now $15) has a max value of $500.

Thanks. I did not notice that subtle but important difference.

I saw this coming but have no problem with it at all. SGC always gets my cards back to me on time. I pay for the express service 99% of the time and get what I pay for. I have used the 10 day service for bulk grading and have received my cards on time. Paying for a service and actually receiving the cards on time is important to me. No complaints here.

I echo what Toby states. 9.99 times out of 10 I will always receive my submissions on schedule and their service is unmatched. Plus lets not forget, still no yearly subscription fee that the other guys have. You get what you pay for in this market and my choice is still SGC by a landslide.

Tony - I still prefer SGC because of their accuracy and case aesthetics, but the yearly membership fee becomes much less significant with these fee hikes since you get 6 submissions with the $100 membership (not to mention 200 pages of monthly scrap paper included) which comes to $16.66 a submission.

Matt -
Lets not forget though the $100 dollars worth of headache's you'll get with those 6 free submissions.
Still not worth it in my book.

Since SGC came out with their oversize holders this past year, they have done a great job of keeping the customer costs to a minimum as I'm sure they are quite delicate and a good number probably get damaged during the sealing process and SGC has to eat those costs. No problem with a small price increase by me.

Well I can gladly state that every email and phone message I have left have always been returned. Of course the average length of my phone conversations is about 2 seconds. I ask why something is the way it is, they tell and boom, we are off the phone.
