Default Great Story by Former Eagle Base Ball Player mid 1800s

Posted By: Shawn

I have been researching heavy into the early Base Ball diagram and Rules that I had picked and posted about in a past thread. I just recently found this (what I think)is a wonderful read, written by a former player of the Eagle Base Ball team from Mass. It is his recollection of the time he spent with the team. I love some of the descriptions he gives of winning the big game! Anyway, the book was published in 1895 and is called the "History of Florence, Mass". I hope others will enjoy and that this is not a "repost".

Thanks Joshua,

I thought the story may be of help to some of the guys on the board because he mentions so many different amateur teams... You see allot of questions on here about cabinet photos with small town teams pictured. Maybe the story will provide some info.

An enjoyable read! Thanks for posting. Amusing to read that in 1894 they were already nostalgic for "the good old days". Doubt they could even begin to imagine what it all would look like now.

"The days of such organizations seem to have passed, but an enthusiast derived more pleasure in witnessing the honest games of such teams as the Eagles and the Hampdens, than the 1894 games of the more scientific professionals."
