Default It's amazing how cheap 1911 sporting life's have gotten!

There are actually several psa 7's up on ebay that are $195 and less. This is a card that i think is a tremendous value, and extremely underrated.......

I agree. Centering is usually very good. I think they are underrated because, let's face it, a lot of the pastel cards are washed out or in unpleasing color combos even in high grades. But many of those cards are actually quite striking--I love the purple shirts on some--and the blue variations are tremendous. And if you have the dough you have the Cobb, Matty, Lajoie options in both pastel and blue. Pick and choose and you can find many great looking options at good prices.

Full disclosure.....I have no M116s listed on ebay nor do I even know of anyone who has any as I haven't checked. But in looking down the ebay search of M116 there are some great cards for not a lot of money, relatively speaking. (I don't own this Clarke anymore....but the Matty I do, and love it)

Though I have never collected this set, I must agree that these are very cool cards and are under valued currently.

I have a couple on my want list, Cobb and Young. I keep an eBay saved search and when they come up, they don't seem to go very cheap. Roughly the same as their t206 counterparts. I can't speak on commons, but maybe thats just what they are, commons.

Leon,

Your Blue Matty is a very nice looking card. It looks like it should be graded higher than a three, based on the scan. Just my opinion.

I agree. The M116s are a favorite of mine. As a type collector, I have committed to buying only one example per type but have to admit that in the case of the M116s, I had to buy 3.
Jennings Psa7; bransfield and crandall both Psa6. The Jennings i won from
Barry Sloate's last auction, I'm proud to say. I had these 3 framed together with double mats--black and gold.
all the best,
barry

I'm so glad someone started this thread, as I love this set. I started collecting the Blue backgrounds recently and have really enjoyed them. I just picked-up this Lajoie yesterday (thank you for your referral, Leon)...

These cards seem to be rather undervalued in my opinion, for what they are. While I've enjoyed being able to buy them at relatively affordable prices - I am surprised they aren't going for more.

I agree they are a good value overall. The tougher cards are still going for good money in my opinion. Hope they stay relatively cheap until I find the last 4!

Fun set to collect!

I agree. I picked up a real nice PSA 6 card the other day for not a lot of money and it looks pretty amazing. Also, I have seen some Sporting Life "Plug Tobacco" Series cards on eBay. What exactly are they?

Ole buddy,
I hate to still admit it but this old dinosaur prof still can't scan. I know it's kinda pitiful since i've been on this board heading toward 9 years or so.
My wife did manage to get someone at her school to scan a couple of things for me over the years for Scott F and Craig D's websites---both framed pieces.
I actually sent Jon C some pictures of a couple of the walls a year or two back
and that's been about it.
But thanks for askin'.
all the best and Happy 4th.
Barry

I've said for the last 10 years that the M116 Sporting Life card set is not only visually very pleasing but has a great deal of room for growth. Now that the T213 Coupon cards are finally starting to appreciate in price as are the T207 scarce back cards, it's about time for the 3rd undervalued and underappreciated set to take off. It's not close to where it should be, still a great buy, especially those tough, scarce cards which rarely appear for sale....

Love them, I have one blank back...do those count as I've heard SGC won't grade them as authentic?
