Difference between e93 and e95 pricing?

I am new to the board and would just like some clarification on a few things. I am starting a caramel collection, and realized that I can find most e93's cheaper than an e95 (ie.. Plank, many HOFers). Is there any reason? Maybe I am just a tad crazy?

There have been several large groups of E93s brought to market in the past year or two. They were already plentiful, but now things have tilted extremely towards the supply side of the supply/demand equation lowering prices.

From my recent experiences it seems the E95's are a bit more costly too. E93's might be a tad more plentiful than the E95's, both seem to be fairly similar though. Others will hopefully chime in and give their point of view....regards

I've always found the E95's to be more appealing to the eye. Again, supply and demand dictates the price.

There have been three major finds of E93s in the past five years, two high or relatively high grade (ex/mt +) and one low grade more recently. The low grade (pr-vg) find had around 200 examples which is 6+ sets if evenly distributed. The combined high grade finds had less than half that. I do not think E93s are more plentiful than E95s. i just think they seem more available right now due to the influx of about 10 new sets to the market. Combine that influx with the timing of the economy and card market and you get a deflated price right now for E93s. My guess is that it is a temporary situation. To me, it is just the winds of change blowing and it will blow back. It is difficult to say anything too definitive about pricing of any cards these days. But I think it is fair to say that while E93s are not particularly tough, I think in general there are less of them out there than E95s. The universal consensus that E95s were more plentiful five years ago (on a per card basis, the easiest E set) should not have changed on the basis of less than ten new examples per card of E93s. If forced to guess, I would guess there are probably 200-300 of any given E93 and more like 400-500 of any given E95.

I think that the e95 plank will always be a more popular card than the e93 because it is his portrait. Other e93 HOFers, like Christy Mathewson, still realize higher prices than e95s.

e93s have always been regarded as a tougher set. I think a couple of finds of around 300 total e93s will not permanently tip the scale, however, I believe the e95 Plank will always be more tough. ($)

I like Jim's analysis. Finds tend to temporarily skew the market; once they are absorbed and some time passes, things get back to normal.

yea it's plank's portrait, and his e93 pose is pretty ugly.

like jim i much prefer the e93s and deeper colors (only exception might be the e95 wagner pose). a few years ago e93s were out-pricing the e95s...now with the big finds they're about even. in a few years who knows. card for card i'd take the e93s and wider range of hofs.

I like both sets, E93 is more surreal and E95 classic, can't go wrong with either one !

I personally love the Wagner from the e93 set. Much nicer than the e95.. Thank you for all your input; The newer e93 collections must have inflated the supply side.

It just seems like the Plank price discrepancy is way too much. I could have bought a psa 1 e93 plank for $150 on Ebay recently, and a psa 1 e95 plank probably would go for double. I do like the e95 pose more than the e93, but the e93 isn't anything to complain about.

I decided to buy the E95 Plank to fill that spot in my T206 set due to the similarity of the poses. Same for my M116 Wagner. Much cheaper than taking the plunge on either of the T206's. I know of several other collectors who took the same approach. I did pay a premium for both cards but was quite happy with how they look in the binder beside their other brethren.

Everytime I see his mint examples I think about what nice cards mine must have been before somebody trampled them into SGC10's !!!!

You really can't go wrong with either set. The E95 commons are plentiful it seems but still very nice cards. Check out Merkle...wow!

Speaking of poses, well I'm just glad we have some variety for Cobb, Wagner, Plank and boys... I like the E95 Plank the best of any baseball card (maybe not above my T208 dream card) and the E93 Mathewson is unreal.

Pricing...well I remember a card show in Albany, NY about 1994 where I was offered a big handful of E98, E95,E96 and I suppose E93 for $5 each because they all had some flaws...back then I was a bit more discerning so I passed.
Now I think of what a first-class fool I was for that mistake.

Thanks for all the great info. I just started collecting caramels as well and I've been focusing on low grade E95 and E96. Does anyone have any insight with respect to the scarcity of E95 v. E96? I'm finding E96 to be much tougher.

Ole Jim B does have the best of the best and has been very astute to
accumulate these for retirement fund needs down the road---much better than the professorial funds we ultimately get!

You are right JimB has good taste...it just looks like mine tasted good to a rodent.

Oh, and Keith...E96 seem to be in far less quantity as compared to E95, but at least there aren't as many HOFers to chase!
