Default 1934 Babe Ruth signed ball value, opinions?

Posted By: Tony Andrea

All,
Not a big autograph guy so would like some opinions. Where would you say this one rates as far as value? Thanks in advance,
Tony A.

What kind of a baseball is that? The black-and-orange stitching make it look like a Babe Ruth Home Run Special. Is it?

Hi David,
Whoops, thought I had them both up there. Sorry bout' that.
Here you go. It's on a college league Ken-Wel ball.

Not even close, I'm afraid.

That's a $3000-$4000 baseball.

Neat seeing a Ken-Wel ball...that's a rare one.... I can't speak to value or authenticity of the autograph.

I'm with David. This piece would have brought another $1000 over the prof's estimate 4-5 years ago. Best to hang on to it for now if it's yours.

I just sold one in lesser condition for 2000.00, so yours is a bit better

3000.00 on the low end and 5000.00 on the high similar to above

Ruth balls just are not getting what they have been in the past

Take Care

still a very nice ball

Jimmy

Right now is not the best time to be selling something where there is a large supply in the market. Even if it is nice many folks are not spending their money if they will see it again in the (near) future. Tough economic times right now. At the same time it's not a bad time to buy stuff as there are some bargains to be had......Nice ball Tony......

Ruth balls are not rare, scarce or even hard to find. There is at least one Ruth signed ball for sale at any given time...sometimes multiple examples. Some auctions you will see 5 or more of them. I would love to own one, but I guess I'm waiting to find one at a local auction and get it for a steal and hope it passes authentication. I'm cheap that way. happy.gif

Where can you get a Ruth ball for $2K? Sauderton, PA...for a "10"!

Kidding.

That is an impressive baseball and a similar ball (off sweet) sold last year for $4,250 so $4,000-5,000 is a good estimate.

IMO, the Ruth market will continue to slide. Every auction is full of them and IMO, (again) there are some amazing forgers out there.

DJ

Oddly, the values of Ruth and Gehrig-signed items seem to mirror trends in the stock market/economy. Mantle, Maris and Munson items buck this trend, continuing to incline steadily. I always wondered why this is the case. As Dan mentioned, Ruth is a common signature (as are all the other names I've mentioned), but all have always been in strong demand. The main reason that the market remains constant with the more recent players is just that--they remain in recent memory. Many of the folks buying Mantle and Munson grew up watching them play. You don't encounter too many octogenarians for which the acquisition of a Ruth single is a top priority.

Jodi

I think Ruth signed balls have a mystique not unlike owning a T206 Wagner...everyone still knows who Babe Ruth was and rich dudes who don't own any baseball memorabilia at all would still like to own a Ruth signed ball to put on their mantle or desk.

I had a signed 1925 Team ball with Ruth on this site last fall, they come around and I still have it - but have been waiting to sell it!

singled signed can be found for decent prices

Jimmy
