Default Old price list from 1970's

Posted By: ramram

I posted this over on the vintage pre-war side without realizing it would fit better over here.....

Ran across this over the weekend. It's a price list from 1975 when I was a kid trying to complete my 1975 Topps set. Too bad it doesn't show any prewar cards.

This was the first time I ran across a source that had individual cards available. At the time I truly thought that it dulled my set because I picked up about a dozen cards without getting them by buying packs.

Seeing that brings back a lot of memories of a time when you could fill your sets at a reasonable price and the NYC shows were filled with great items. CN

This thread reminded me of the catalogs my brother and I used to get from Cal Cards. Did anybody else ever have any dealings with that company? Anyone know whatever happened to the owner? It was one of the highlights of an admittedly sheltered existence when the new Cal Cards catalog (more like "brochure") hit the mailbox.

If I recall correctly, you could order common cards but you had to do it by card number. This was a problem for us because we didn't know what numbers the Brewers were. Thus, any checklist card we could ever find was GOLDEN!

Ah, simpler times...

I remember my brother buying tons of books and programs from GS Gallery in Allentown, Pa. He and his friend would also go up to the Harry M. Stevens office in Manhattan and get tons of free programs from them; they ran the concessions in NYC stadiums.

Thanks for posting! This was really fun to see (although a little painful to read). I am beginning to try and collect materials related to the hobby itself, including older hobby magazines and marketing materials from hobby shops. If anyone has other stuff like this, I'd love to see it, or if you have any interesting items related to the history of collecting, pre-1985, I'd love to know about it.

I guess I'll take 10 sets of the 1969 Supers at $10.00 each and 3 sets of the 64 Stand ups at $6.00 ea.

Thanks,

Paul
