Default This is great! This guy just bought a reprint 1952 topps Mantle for $300

Posted By: dan mckee

Here is his response after I informed him:

I know- but the color is great and it looks real in its case-holder. The sellar never said it was real and I'm not dumb enough to think I can get a 1952 Mantle #311 for $300. I admit I overpayed but I put in a high bid to start- never thinking the bidding would really go that high- so I had to stand by my bid. Who knows, I may decide to go after an authenticated one in a few years. In the meantime I'm happy with this one.

Thanks Hampton

Sounds more like the canned response from a shill bidder than a collector. I hope it's a shill bidder beucase I hate to think that there are people this stupid out there.

The response definitely from a shill bidder. Who would not be pissed spending $300 on a reprint and still happy with it.

reprint and regular, and didn't see any selling for anywhere in the $300s. Do you have a link or a number or something?

I sure saw a lot of (supposerdly) real ones --I didn't stop to look at them--selling for LESS than $300, that's for sure. Everything that wasn't graded...

How much is a PSA 10 reprint of Honus Wagner going for these days? How much are PSA 10 reprint '52 Topps Mantle cards going for. Do you think these people are on to something? Maybe, just maybe, a PSA 10 reprint of a valuable card could be as valuable as the plastic it is encapsulated in or even more...
