Football Price Guide

Can one of you direct me to a decent football card "price guide" or online source?

The One I have is old and not very collector friendly - SCD I think.

I just bought last years (2011) Big Beckett FB priceguide from an Amazon seller for 1 cent plus $3.99 shipping. The prices for older cards don't really change, if you collect newer stuff, I would buy the most recent one.

And therein lies the problem with these books. While the prices in the *books* often do not change, the prices in the *market* change all of the time. These books also don't often do a very good job of identifying those cards in vintage sets that aren't of stars but are more scarce and worth more than other cards in the set.

I use Vintage Card Prices (www.vintagecardprices.com) to track actual sales prices of vintage cards. Between this, population reports from PSA/SGC, and one of the card price books (an older one is often fine), you can get a pretty decent idea of the current value of many vintage cards.

It is a good resource but not completely sufficient for a couple of reasons:

1. It only shows prices for graded cards so if you are purchasing raw ones, you need to adjust accordingly

2. For really old cards there often are not an adequate number of transactions to have any confidence in the number(s)

Regardless, it's an excellent resource. When someone is selling a graded card, you can also often track down the price they paid for it when they purchased it which makes things interesting ;-)

Thanks guys I will follow up. Those that I have seen in print over the years are tough to sort through. Appreciate your assistance.
