Default Wagner Pin

I won a Wagner pin tonight item # 260145272904
I just started collecting more than just cards and I thought this was a fair price considering the last time I saw this being offered it was $3,000.00 Does anyone have any more info on this pin? Thank you in advance.

Here's a link to the auction. With the 2 pins, do you have the option for both?

I'm with you -- it's a beautiful pin that seems undervalued compared to his more frequently seen cards.

Max- I do have the option and I was thinking about the one on the left. What do you think? Will PSA grade these? The guy will sell me both if anyone is interested in the other one at the same price. Is there a pin collector out there who knows anything about these? I also have a chance at a different Wagner pin and I need some advice. Please email me dan@chiprop.com Thanks

On the open market I have seen these for 2,000 so if you can get the other it just might be well worth it - eBay prices always seem to be a bit lower for high end items. I see pins all the time and these are hard to find, advertising pins similar to the one you won were popular between 1895-1915 and I would est. the pin around 1908 – I could be wrong and someone that is a pin dealer could have the correct date - Congrats

Take Care

Jimmy

also, Check the book "Smithsonian Baseball" – there is a chapter about pin backs

Wagner mounted an unsuccessful run for Sheriff of Allegheny County in 1925. I don't see how this pin could have been made any earlier than that. Hope this helps.

Dan, that Wagner pin is a teriffic get (I was an underbidder)! It's extremely rare and dates to Honus Wagner's unsuccesful run for sheriff of Allegheny County in 1925 following his playing days.

For whatever reason three of these pins have been on E-Bay in the last few weeks after none having surfaced in the last few years. (The BIN sold for $1,549.00 about two weeks ago, but you definitely got a good price.)

I would definitely be interested in buying the second pin if it's still available! E-mail me at aaron1050@aol.com

Congrats!

Isn't this the same image used on that Wagner cabinet card that most everyone had serious doubts about? I can't find the pic.

So, okay the pin can be considered a political advertising pin for 1925, but they must have used an older photo - maybe that is were someone told me it dated before 1910

Paul,

Yes, it appears to be the same image as that cabinet card...which, by the way, also sold on eBay a few days ago:

Pins are difficult to counterfeit--a pin expert will allay any fears here.

This is a GREAT baseball collectible and well worth the price.
