This is a very good idea for a thread. I must have missed it.

Topps set collecting is my secondary focus. I am primarily a Cardinals team set collector, but after that, I collect complete Topps sets (base and update/traded).

Having started probably 10 or 12 years ago, since it is a secondary focus for me, I have not gotten as far down as I would like, but I am making progress. I currently have Topps sets from 2016 down to 1967. I am currently working on 1966. With 1966, I am about 90% complete and hope to complete the set in a few weeks. For older sets, I don't worry so much about condition. I am all about completion and quantity over quality. It saves a bunch of money doing it that way. I try to get my older sets in presentable low to mid grade. My 1970 sets on up are pretty nice, but 1969 on down is starting to get more lower grade.

Frank - That approach seems to make great sense when it comes to the older sets. You will always have the opportunity to upgrade as you go that way as well.
I've begun a raw 58T set and may look to leverage that idea.

I'm working on three sets right now. I strive for near mint or higher on all my sets but ex-mint sneaks in here and there. Stars and other toughies I try to get graded 7 or higher. I need to increase my insurance coverage. Heh.

1957 - 45.33% << favorite dream set from childhood
1960 - 93.88% << horizontal happiness
1965 - 90.97% << love to hate this issue
1966 - 100% << birth year - high number hell
1971 - 100% << nightmare finally over
1972 - 100% << boom chicky wow wow
1975 minis - 100% << taste the rainbow

Of course, I need the Mantles for 57, 60, and 65. I'm picky and cheap.

Scott

P.S. Working on Mars Attacks ex-mint or higher and lord please help me find a nm/mt 1969 Planet of the Apes #1 to complete my Dad's set. Will pay stupid money.

Everyone's updates are keeping me motivated. Thanks for posting them.

Here are mine:

1968 Topps Game: Have 27/33 = 82% Complete
1971 Topps Baseball: Have 539/732 = 72% Complete
1973 Topps Baseball: Completed it two weeks ago with the purchase of card #610.

On the 1971 set build, I had only intended to complete the lower series, but I found quite a few of the high series at a show a few weeks ago that I couldn't pass up. So, now I'm going for the whole set.

I also started picking up 1972 Topps baseball PSA-graded stars this year. I haven't decided on whether or not I will go for the complete set, but if I do, it will be ungraded except for the stars.

I realize not postwar, but I am only working on one complete set at this time (although I have many subsets in progress).

My set is the 1939 Playball set. I have been working on this set now for the past 4 years (unfortunately on a budget). With unlimited funds, this really is not a difficult set to put together, but I just cannot throw-down $100/common for the high-numbers. Overall in my set, I am down to only commons; I need 9 commons in the low-number set and 20 commons in the high-numbers. The set is put together with centering key, and condition VG-EX to EX-MT/NM (or PSA/SGC 4 to 6/7). I have approx. half of the set entombed in PSA/SGC including all the HoF/star cards. Beautiful set to look at and the key cards, like Ted and Joe, are just awesome!!

29 more cards...........

Dave
