Default 1957 Topps Brooks Robinson

Am in the midst of putting this set together. Many of the stars in mid grade condition I can get at a reasonable price, but the Brooks is way way over the top in terms of price on ebay v book. Only the Kluszewski comes close, maybe Bobby Richardson.
Finally broke down and bought one for $150 and probably overpaid. Real frustrated with that card.

I agree, the frank robinson rookie is one of the best bargains in the set, brooks certainly the worst, except as you stated the sleeveless klu.

Bill,

I feel your pain as I too am putting together that set. I think I paid around $120 for a very nice looking Robinson, but I feel like that card is way overvalued.

Who are you having trouble with? I am concerned more with card focus than corners at this point. I see a wide variety of shots some blurred some sharp. Card #407 in particular. I find that the 4th series is the best register and the 5th the worst. Also took me a while to get a decent focus Williams and Mays (1st series)

1957 Brooks.... Undervalued. All century 3rd baseman , 1964 MVP, World Series MVP , 16 Gold Gloves !!! Let me say it again. 16 gold gloves !
The card is hard to find clean with good registration and focus. Buy as many as you can now because the price will only move up on this card. Scott

I agree the 1957 is painful on the wallet, along with his 1967 hi#.

Default it is a tough

coupled with being a very popular card. it is undervalued in guides if anything. The frank robinson is a relatively easy to find card compared to brooks though i agree frank was a monster on the field. both are legendary names and i would not consider either a bad buy.

I remember several years ago picking up a signed 57 Brooks Robinson, with an autograph ticket from when it was signed, on eBay for only $8. The person misspelled Robinson and it flew under the radar by everyone except me. By far my greatest eBay deal.

Nice! You're lucky the seller followed through too!

He's so boyish looking on that RC. Hard to believe he is almost 80.

Nice! Pretty good color and register as well...

I think Topps, for back in the day, colorized this B&W photo fairly well.

There may have never been a more classy or genuinely nice guy to play the game than Brooks. Still that way today!

I agree. I still think his status is over rated, which makes his rookie card overpriced.

I don't really see the Brooks card as being over valued. HOF rookies are always popular. If anything I'm surprised the Frank Robinson card isn't worth more. Probably a good time to pick one up.
