Yankee/Highlander Uniform Project

I had posted a few weeks back about starting a project to capture the various Yankee and Highlander uniforms from 1903 thru 1945. Its seemed, after hearing from some members, this had not been attempted by many and to make sure I had enough wall space . Well, I decided to jump in head first on this project.

Using Dressed to the Nines as my base line for all the different uniforms I found there are 49 unique over the 1903-1945 time period (not included are the various hat and stirrup changes.) This includes 16 special issue uniforms for WWI, WWII, Red Ruffings Discharge, Huggins, etc. (If you'd like the list let me know. It will eventually be on my website.)

So, to the important stuff, the actual photos. I have recently picked up 5 of the 49 between eBay and RMY. All are Type 1 photos, which is a requirement for this project. Feel free to contact me if you have any additional photos and don't hesitate to tease me with some tougher to find. I'm planning to use this thread to capture my project over the coming years.

After RMY this weekend I was able to add three more photos to my uniform project. I'm very excited to get these in hand especially the hard fought for Bob Meusel.

Cool stuff!

I think you need to pick up a Type 1 example of that famous shot of Ty Cobb sliding into third base. That was at Hilltop Park against the Highlanders (or NY Americans), but for some reason a lot of people who list reprint examples of that photo for sale (on ebay and elsewhere) state it took place at the Polo Grounds against the Giants. Weird.

Great idea for a collection.
The uniform database that I use is from the baseball HOF website. It was compiled by Marc Okkonen. Very very thorough and pretty easy to use.

Those early uniforms are going to be tough. I came across an original Horner of Griffith on eBay about 2 months ago. Too costly at that moment, now I'm kicking myself for not pulling the trigger.

To add a little to your Beville, he also played for the Columbus Senators and is on my search list for a card.

I haven't updated my thread in a while. Summer makes it very difficult since my weekends are spent playing vintage base ball or hanging out with my wife (zoo and vacation). I did update the total number of jerseys to 46 after some additional research. Here are the 3 new photos since my last post, 1913 thru 1945 are coming together pretty nicely. Highlanders uniforms are a different story.

Currently 30.43% complete. Hope to near the 50% mark by the end of the year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will add a search list to the memorabilia BST page.
