Default Ball forgery

Here's an example of a Chub Feeney ball from the '70s that was doctored (Spalding logo added) and is now being sold as a 1903 Negro Leagues autographed ball. I wonder why they didn't do some work on the Feeney signature? What a stretch.

I don't know enough to comment on why this ball is forged or not, but i love the part in the description that just states: "My store is in a very old, historic district." Now THAT must make the ball real...

...but it's on a 1970's Chub Feeney ball that I think has been doctored. I know that the real balls were made by Rawlings, but perhaps Spalding made some too.

I would guess that the seller bought the ball thinking it was legit.

Dave Bushing and Joe Phillips recently published a guide to vintage baseballs ('Vintage Base Balls'). It is short, like a 20 page pamplet, and informative with a price guide. I know that at one point MastroNet was selling it on their site, but I beleive no more. Otherwise, it's probably at sale at Phillip's site at glovecollector.com. I got a free copy in order to review it in my old newsletter, but I think it costs something like $15-20.

I am guessing that more than half of the people I have contacted about items like this were people who were duped by someone else.
