Picked up a variation of the Giants 1964 calendar. I still have some holes to fill but don't ever plan on forking out what the 1958's go for. Well.....never say never.

Hi Mike,
FYI, I own this pinback as well because of Earl Hamilton's no-hitter connection.
I believe if you do your research on Hamilton you will find that he owned a minor league baseball team after his playing career if I remember correctly, thus the inscription on the pinback.

Great info Scott, and I'm sure that's what the pin is "about". I noticed he played one year for my Tigers as well. I like the obscure oddball nature of it

"Really" like the '64 calendar variation pickup and thanks for sharing the other years as well. I'd love to have some of the older O's calendars (if there even is some?!?); would make for a cool display. Do you have a pic of the '58? Also, I would be curious as well as the going price of the '58 if you can locate one.

One question; how do you even know that these calendars are out there as well as knowing there are variations?

My buddy sent a picture of his 1958 (flatten that thing out, already!!!). He paid $450 for it. To my knowledge, it is the only one to hang "diagonally" and not be orange and white. Mack-Newman or Nadel-Newman put these out from 1958-1970. I think my buddy has almost the complete run. We only know of variations when one pops up.

Joe Girardi game used bat from his days with the Rockies.

Not sure what the tape is at the bottom, looks like band-aid bandage wrap. Maybe this was his BP bat? Not sure if you can have that on your bat in a game.

Here is a neat recent pickup.
This is a game ball from the doubleheader played on 9/28/1951 at NYY.

In the first game of the D/H, Yankee's hurler "Superchief" Allie Reynolds pitched his way into the record books by throwing his second career no-hitter against the Boston Red Sox. At this point in history, only Johnny Vander Meer had accomplished this feat. 64 years later there still are only 6 pitchers in major league history to complete this feat: Vandy, Allie Reynolds, Virgil Trucks, Nolan Ryan, Roy Halladay and Max Scherzer.

This is actually a foul ball that was retrieved by a fan in the 2nd game of the 9/28/51 D/H off the bat of the visiting Red Sox's Charlie Maxwell. Of note, in the second game, Yankee's Joe DiMaggio homered for the final time in his HOF career with the Bronx Bombers.The patron, sensing the history of the D/H, had Allie Reynolds sign the ball and he added the following additional notations to complete the provenance for the ball.
I couldn't resist the temptation to add this ball to my no-hit pitcher collection.
While the ball was not retrieved from the actual no-hit game, it's definitely about as close as you could get for a vintage game ball.

Extra Innings:
Allie Reynolds pitched 13 total seasons for the Cleveland Indians and NY Yankees. He had a win loss record of 182-107 and career ERA of 3.30.
During his 9 year run with the Yankees he was absolute money.
In the World Series he was 7-2 in the games that he got a decision in the 15 games that he appeared in. In the 1949 WS he had an ERA of 0.00; in 1950 he had a WS ERA of 0.79.
Although he was never inducted into the HOF he was a fan favorite, including many that lobbied hard for his inclusion into the HOF.

The person that sold this to me on eBay a few years ago indicated that the pin originated from a HOF vote in '67 for Allie Reynolds.
At the time I didn't question it because this was at the point that Allie Reynolds received his highest percentage vote in his quest to enter the HOF.

This HOF excerpt is from Wikipedia on Allie Reynolds:

Baseball Hall of Fame candidacy

"When Reynolds was eligible for election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, his highest vote percentage was 33.6% in the 1968 balloting, short of the 75 percent required for election.[21] That year, he finished ahead of future Hall of Famers Arky Vaughan, Pee Wee Reese, Phil Rizzuto, George Kell, Hal Newhouser, Bob Lemon, and Bobby Doerr.

Reynolds was named as one of the ten former players that began their careers before 1943 to be considered by the Hall of Fame's Veterans Committee for induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.[40] He received eight votes, one shy of the nine votes required for election.[21] Reynolds was on the new Golden Era Committee ballot in 2011 for 2012, (replaced the Veterans Committee)[21] receiving fewer than three votes (12 votes are required for election to the Hall of Fame).[41] The Committee meets and votes every three years on ten candidates selected from the 1947 to 1972 era. So, this calendar had just been on ebay. My fellow Giants collecting buddy really wanted it so I stayed away and he got it for minimum ($30). The seller puts another one up and I, of course, come in third when the second one goes for $93 two weeks later.

Picked up a presentational watch given to Willie Upshaw by the Blue Jays. On the back it is engraved "Willie Upshaw 10 Years". I am not sure if it was given to him for 10 years of service or to celebrate 10 years of the Blue Jays being in MLB.

Could only find one other at auction given to Hector Torres who played for the Jays in 1977 and was a manager in their minors system in 85-86, which would have been the Blue Jays 10th season.

Not a depiction of a particular player, just representative. That series used the same head with the big dimples for all teams.

I had not heard that term so I googled and found the following from 2014 Huggins & Scott auction for a set of three of them:

"Synonymous with the sport he so thoroughly dominated, Gordie Howe was not only portrayed on the Detroit Red Wings 1967-1968 Gold Base bobblehead doll, but was the likeness on dolls for the remaining teams in the set, as well!"

I see that term is used by The Nodder Exchange, too. Although I really don't see the resemblance, great to know as another search term as I try to find the Blues blue sweater version.
