Default Favorite Graig Kreindler Painting

Since we have the raffle going I figured I would ask what one of his painting everyone likes the best. Post your favorite.

The "Study of Ted Williams, 1941" is by far my favorite. Something about it just makes me go WOW that is amazing.

Default Also Ted

Ben, very nice. I don't remember seeing that painting in the past.

My favorite is also Ted, but in the panoramic view of Fenway. If I win, Graig will have another Ted painting to add to his gallery.

This one still boggles my mind. Every time I show the picture to someone they can't believe it isn't a photograph.

Honestly can't decide between these two. The detail in both is unbelievable, like staring through a window at the actual event. Mind boggling.

Honorable mention to the Babe Ruth Day, Gehrig farewell speech and the recent Hank Aaron portrait he posted. And the '27 Yanks will be a masterpiece once it's finished! Really hard to pick just one, or even ten.

Default Favorite Kreindler

Wow, there are so many great ones...
I am also partial to the Jackie Robinson debut painting, but I am truly blessed to be able to enjoy my Vandy painting on a daily basis.
Dimensions: 20" x 28"

Thanks again, Graig!

I'm biased. The large one is simply incredible. I love the small study too as it's same image as used on the Big Bam book and the 1923 Maple Crispette card.

Really love this one for one I don't own. But, I could probably nominate 10 different ones for other favorites any given day of the week. I love those two Jackie ones shown above too.

Picking just one is kinda futile. But after looking at Post #5, I've gotta agree with Randall. Amazing texture and depth to that Mantle. And that luscious Yankees Pinstripe is just amazing. Graig absolutely nailed the soft cream-colored Uni, with the slightest amount of soiling.

So real, I can practically feel the flannel. The majestic Yankee Stadium backdrop is worthy of more heaping praise, but I'll shut up and let others post away!

Ok. So I have 2 that are my favorites.

First is, in my opinion, THE single best sports painting EVER made. Unfortunately, it is not owned by me.

Second, is my personal favorite, because of the quality of the painting, which the picture does absolutely no justice to, the subject matter,
and the fact that I own it.

and now framed(also a crappy photo)

Bnorth,

Incredible thread you start. Wow, I do like looking at all these great paintings. As many times as I have seen most of them, I love seeing them all again.
The eyes on Christy are incredible.
Mantle, is truly amazing.
Jackie Robinson and Yogi, may be my favorite, but I can say that with all of them.
Only thing better then these beauties is.........MORE. BRING ON MORE.

The sheer viciousness of the Cobb slide painting makes it one of my favorites. I don't think I'd want it hanging it my apartment though. All I see is the darkness in my soul every time I look at it. The '86 Mets team with the excited Gary Carter and the Mariano running out to the mound are my other two favorites.

Also, +1 on the Christy Mathewson. That painting really brings so much life to the photograph that inspired it. It's the total opposite of the Cobb slide painting. It's full of such light and hope.

Welcome to Net54, Billy H. I recognize you from GK's Facebook posse. The Cobb Sliding painting is the very first thing I see each morning on the way to the caffeine pot in the kitchen. Bought it from Graig and Dean about seven or eight years ago and my psyche is still wired reasonably tight. The structure of Conlon's photo and the way Graig perfectly realized it never fail to please. That being said, it's my second favorite Kreindler (that I own, anyway). Graig painted Horner's Joe Wood portrait on commission a few years ago. This painting messes with my mind. I can talk to it.

My very favorite Kreindler belongs to someone else. It is entitled "Beast Bangs Gomez" and shows Jimmie Foxx scoring after hitting his third consecutive home run of the day off of Lefty Gomez at Shibe Park in 1933. The bluesy feel, the physical movement, those god-wonderful baggy flannels. You could hate baseball and still love this painting.

Honorable Mention to the Matty portrait and to the 1917 Red Sox Ruth pitching on opening day, and to any Yankee Stadium painting from the 1950s. I was there and I'll vouch that Graig always nails the sunlight and shadows of that grand ball yard. You can smell the cigar smoke.

Matty,Cobb, Jackie and those wood portrait are hard to beet. I, however, am a little biased. Of my 4 Graigies, my first one(mantle shooting for the Trimble crown) is my favorite. My pic doesn't do it justice. It is crazy good in person. It is a pretty early work too.. I have known my little buddy for quite some time now. Isn't that right half pint?

Ben,

That Mantle is a great painting. I don't think I've seen it anywhere before.
