Picked up a pretty cool piece. Handwritten school assignment in pencil, one page both sides, 8.25 x 11, November 6, 1947. An essay with fabulous physics and aerospace content. In part: “There is a definite limit somewhere to the speeds at which man will travel in the future. The comparatively heavy weights of metals used in constructing airships tend to slow down the craft. If we were to enter another planet’s atmosphere at a high speed, our craft would blaze away to nothing just as the meteors do that strike our atmosphere. Army scientists have proven that our bodies cannot stand an acceleration greater than 64 feet per second every second…Since the laws of nature, throughout the ages, have yet to be violated, the physical endurance of human bodies will place an ultimate fence around the pasture of super speeds.” The teacher was evidently disappointed in the student's work, writing in large red pencil: “A series of statements, showing little relation one to the other or to the T.S.—i.e.—no coherence. Vague terms. Generalities.” This student, however, would have the last laugh, he was Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., better known to us as BUZZ ALDRIN, 2nd man on the moon. This dates to Aldrin’s senior year at Montclair High School in New Jersey, after graduation which he went to West Point. Years later, Aldrin himself would violate several of the statements he makes here—most notably, on Apollo 11 he experienced acceleration forces of approximately 4g during liftoff and 6.5g during reentry, more than triple the acceleration he writes that a human can withstand. A truly remarkable piece revealing Aldrin’s thoughts on spaceflight long before it became a reality.

Thanks Andrew and Steve. Toying with the the idea of taking it off as it is affixed with 4 little glue spots and can be removed with no damage to the pc and very light damage to the essay. Real curious to see if there is anything on the reverse

I have been working on a 500 HR piece and am down to Ott and Ruth. So following Mel Ott's as they come up at auction. This poped up on Ebay. 1956 Tiger program that was signed By Tigers owner Briggs as well as then Tiger announcer Mel Ott as well as early Kaline and Bunning auto's. Arrived today and is Very Nice and cost me well under market value for an Ott cut signiture, But I cannot bring myself to cut up such a nice program so I will enjoy it while I continue my hunt for an Ott and a Ruth for my display.

He was up in the Seattle area for a charity event put on by former Seattle Seahawk, Kenny Easley. They had a golf tournament early in the day then at night they had a reception at a winery.

He showed up late at the reception and instantly went to the back and got on his phone. You could tell that he didn't really want to be there or to interact with fans. When he got off the phone, I approached him and he semi reluctantly signed the item after asking what it was. He wasn't in the best mood but did sign one item for people that came up to him (side paneled all baseballs) and posed for pictures (refused to smile).

For $40 to attend the event, I was more than pleased that I got to meet the player that I idolized growing up. I would get there were less than 200 people at the event including the other celebrities.

Awesome experience MacDice! Probably quite a few local sports celebrities at Easley's Golf tournament. I hit a round in Jon Kitna's Classic at Suncadia a couple weeks back, but did not find the autograph I was looking for as Billy North (CWU alum) failed to show .

My framer recommended I pair the photo with our copy of Ted's rookie... Dropped them off their morning, and got this back this afternoon...

Got this one in the mail today. Circa 1934 Hank Greenberg album page. I've been looking for one of these for a while, and I was Very grateful that board member Andrew Lavine (bearfan4) was kind enough to part with it... Great person to deal with by the way... Very fair and a super quick turnaround...
