Got a feeling it would be a bunch of modern crap. The term “bobblehead” never existed in the glory days of nodders/bobbing heads.

For my grandkids, the bobble head crap is what the 60’s and 70’s models are to most of us

Here you go Rob... not Catman, a guy in the southwest did these for a while, though no longer I'm told. Had him do the ooo-ribay, later bought the Mays off a friend... seems to me this was an old timers day uni for Willie?

Hey Jimm - I just picked up the one in the middle. It came with some sort of "Note of Authenticity." These things are a bit of a mystery. The maker, Matt Hirsch, used to produce limited numbers (25 for the green base Mays). Then he started doing realistic Mayses that were pretty much knock offs of the original, vintage ones. This latest is kind an amalgamation, although neither the body nor head exactly matches the others. I like them, no matter what the story.

Per John Brey, a big reseller of vintage bobbin' heads and owner of the Nodder Exchange website:

"1960's Bobbing Head dolls were manufactured by Lego, a Swiss firm, and as we all know were put together in Japan. Apparently Lego made an agreement with Sports Specialties of Los Angeles California which gave S.S. the exclusive rights to import and distribute the dolls. Another firm, Bobbie Enterprises,Inc. sold them through mail order."

Thank you ooo ribay for the answer. Is that the same Lego who makes Legos plastic building blocks?

Default SF Giants weirdo bobbleheads

Hello everyone. I’m new. And recently inherited 3 Kreiss and Co 1960’s SF Weirdo Giants bobblehead/nodders. I have screw ball, crybaby and the angry face. All in excellent condition. I’m looking for more information on how to get the value of them or where to go to sell them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are a bit dusty. I’m scared to attempt to clean them when I don’t really know how to properly do it.

Here some of my catman collection.. Might trade for other cool bobble heads etc. I have many more upload later.. If you have questions on catman i know the history well.
Matt Hirsh started making these in the mid 90s.. I actually was the first one to sell a few on ebay in 1997. He actually sold these on ebay from 1999 to around 2005. Matt an artist he hand created his own molds and hand painted them.. So there all kinds of variations. He still makes these in limited quanities. Hope that helps..

These things are getting out of hand....I bought two Mays from Matt in 2000 for $35 apiece....now, certain ebay sellers think they’re worth $1000+.

This worked out great for me because this "short bat" variety was one of the only Giants mini's I was lacking. I got it relatively cheap, due to the damage. My amateur restoration didn't turn out too bad.

WOW Rob! Looks like the work of a master from your pics, great job. I'm tempted to try an old Tigers Bobblehead repair with far less damage than you started with. What type of paint did you use?

I finally got around to taking a decent pic of all 16 of my KC Ac minis together. All are different in some way, other than the middle two top row.

I love those little guys so much, I've resorted to calling my wife "Moonface".

It's meant as a term of endearment (and the ultimate compliment), but she does not see it that way, haha.

Regardless... Great Chisox collection, Doug! You've really cornered the market on the Minis.

Those are great. I could be wrong but I think only the Orioles had those uniquely shaped bases.

Ugh.... just more proof of my short-term memory loss. I can remember what I paid for a random pennant in 1993, but couldn't remember the Athletics after the 20 seconds it took to reply. Maybe I had the little White Sox mini subconsciously stuck in my head.

It's this guy! In my 30 years of collecting Giants nodders, this is the first I've been able to get with "eyes right." The odd thing is, Doug earlier posted a picture of 16 KC A's mini's and 14 of his 16 (88%) are "eyes right." This is a mystery to me...conventional wisdom is that the dolls were made by Lego, a Swiss company, shipped to Japan for paint and decals and then exported to the States. So, why would "eyes right" be so prevalent with Doug's mini's and so rare with my Giants (1 of 40)? All I can think of is that they went to different painting facilities...

Another mystery....Lou Criscione's bobber book shows only three teams to ever have a bat on the player's left side...KC, Angels and a Cubs black face. Again, if all dolls were shipped from Lego to Japan, wouldn't it stand to reason that the left bat was seen in all (or most) teams? I would have thought Japan would get "raw" dolls and just paint and decal them according to demand.

Although only 50-60 years old, I think nodders are hugely undervalued and underappreciated. They are very fragile and many got blown up with firecrackers (by kids like me). In my mind, they were the coolest things sold at souvenir stands in the past 60 years. In the "Hey, pennant guys" thread, we have dissected pennants (ad nauseum). With our collective knowledge, we have solved many mysteries as to when, where and by who pennants were made. I'd love to expand my nodder knowledge to the same degree.

With our collective knowledge, we have solved many mysteries as to when, where and by who pennants were made. I'd love to expand my nodder knowledge to the same degree.
We need a "Kyle" for Nodders, I suppose...

The best bet might be to get John Brey (All Doll Auction) or Tim Hunter (if he's still around) signed up to net54. I know that John is incredibly well-versed and knowledgeable in every aspect of Bobblehead collecting. Same for Tim, but he seems to have permanently exited the hobby.

It would actually be great to get either of them aboard, as they'd bring a wealth of knowledge to the forum.

I actually emailed John…he was as clueless as me.

I need to track down an 80 year old Japanese fella who worked in the factory!

Pretty safe to say the mysteries will always abound.

As a matter of fact, John Brey has the left bat A’s and black face Cubs in his just opened auction.

This promo went for over $35k last night. Highest price I’ve ever seen for a nodder. That’s a lot of dough but way cooler than a low grade ‘53 Mantle, IMO.
