Default Bill Lange

I always thought Bill Lange (along with Fred Goldsmith) would be a hole in the collection, with no cards showing up for him in a Beckett search. Now only to discover he maybe had a Sporting News supplement in 1899? Not a card exactly but a something. I only discovered it by looking at his Wikipedia page. Any one ever see one of these? The Wikipedia scan and an old HA auction are the only examples I can find.

Just read the bio that he retired to get married. Interesting stuff...

No, that's Frank Lange (AKA Bill Lange) who played shortly after Bill Lange, for the other Chicago team. As if collecting pre-war wasn't confusing enough!

Thanks! I had seen a couple of those links, but the connection to the National Copper Plate Set is helpful. If I'm reading correctly, the Sporting News supplements were based on the Copper Plates, which means he has a total of two issues. And if that Christie's auction is any indication, I might be able to pick one up for $500-$1000 if it were to ever appear? I'm not likely to find the framed plate plus cut autograph for $116 (!!!) like in that 2006 HA auction.

This seems to clear it up:

I spent a good hour looking for completed auctions or current listings and nothing popped up. I did see there is a team image or postcard if you'd accept this one as an option.
