Default Statement from Dave Forman/SGC about the new flip

As some of you may know, I represent Dave Forman and SGC on some matters; he asked that I post this:

"After some careful consideration and reflection I have decided that SGC will discontinue the new flip design that has been the subject of some recent controversy. SGC will design a new flip to resemble, as closely as possible, the design presented by Joe G. The label will include a green border containing the white SGC letters along the top edge.

It is clear that the loyal and passionate collectors who keep SGC in business have spoken and we are happy and obliged to listen to them.

This change may take some time to complete so please bear with us as the logistics of the new label are worked out.

Thank you,
Dave Forman
SGC"

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Strive to be happy.

Can you ask him if there will be some kind of discount if we want to get our current cards reholdered?

Thank you Dave Forman & SGC! This is an honor for me!

Here is my prediction, record business for SGC at this time to obtain a "rare" flip including customers specifically asking for this interim flip followed by strong business growth resulting from having the best looking flip in the business (together with best customer service, consistency, etc.).

I like the move, thanks again Joe.Will the short printed flips command a premium? Possibly a multiplier of 1.3

I'm waiting to see a card designated as previously owned by Lionel Carter with the rare flip. Heads will explode all over America.

After reading through several of these threads, I get the feeling that if SGC had somehow introduced the Joe G flip first, people would have lost their minds and somebody on NET54 would have come up with a non-bordered flip that everybody would have loved...calling it "sleeker" and "classier" then the original idea.

Great diecision, something that keeps the tradition of the old SGC label going and at the same time, adjusts to changing technlogy.

We got to the answer we needed to get to, just in a round about way

Really glad to hear this, kudos to SGC and to this board. It's cool to think we all played a small part in getting this done. Looking forward to continued business with SGC and to seeing the new and improved new holders/flips.

Jeff, thanks for posting this!!

Another reason why I love SGC. Now I can win the two cards I want that are currently in PSA holders, and cross them to SGC.

To all board members - have a great holiday tomorrow!!

Dan,

Well said. This was a collaborative effort. A lot of people here on Net 54 felt strongly about this change, and they made their voices heard.

I give SGC a lot of credit, too. Most companies say they care about keeping their customers happy. Well, with SGC, that's not just talk. Customer satisfaction creates loyalty, and don't think for a second that I, for one, will forget that.

I think there is little doubt you are correct. Probably some of the same ones that griped about the lack of border would have griped about a border.
It's funny(to me at least) the trivial things that people complain about.

Bobby, I did not realize you were such an open-minded, live and let live guy! But in any event I am glad you and the others made it through the crisis.

Well, if a piece of paper sandwiched between 30 cents of plastic that identifies a baseball card isn't trivial I'm not sure anything qualifies.

As for "Chive on homeboy" you got me there, I have no idea what that means.
I'm sure it's trivial though.

Well....I think that Andy Warhol couldn't paint for shit. Campbell's soup cans?? Give me a break. Yet his artwork sells for millions. I guess I am more tolerant of what people collect than the next man. I repeat, trivial is in the eye of the beholder. No judgement here.

Can't one love his wife AND his flips at the same time?

On the other hand, there are some out there who would flip the wife if they could make a buck!

I wonder if Dave spoke to Bob Freedman about this. From what I recall he said it can't be done.

Nevermind. I just saw that Bob edited his post. It looks like they just needed 8 months and one day to figure it out.

Great news! SGC truly does have great customer service. They made a mistake and listened. Kudos, I will be sending them a submission soon.

I'm glad to hear that the Green Color Scheme will still be around...

Default about SGC....

as I stated earlier.....they are a class act....they know what they are doing...I would not send my precious cards anywhere else....I wouldn't care if the flip was designed by a 2 year old in crayon(btw the new design by "joe" looks very sweet"_)....as long as they keep getting it right....they know T206 rarities(amongst other vintage), that other companies have no clue what they are talking about.in all due respect to those "other" grading companies......so kudos to SGC and the way they have always handled their customers....EARL JOHNSON and the rest of the team are awesome in every way at SGC........they are a company that other companies in our great nation could learn a thing or two from them..not just in grading sports mem....but listening to what the customer wants.....

also, NET 54 has become a big voice in the collecting community....I am honored to be able to post here ......it is a big outlet for me in life....as I'm sure for many others here.....I have made a ton of friends and almost no "haters"....

I am already thinking of the next cards I need to cross over to SGC .....I bet the "interim" new flip design will command a big premuim

Default Statement from Dave Forman/SGC about the new flip

I talked with SGC today in person at a show, we sent in a few cards just to see how the labels will come out. Most likely they will not be changing anything to the labels, at least not anytime soon. We will start to follow sales of the new holders and see how it all goes, but from my understanding this was a business move that they needed to make to move forward as being the leader in card grading and authentication. I really wish them the best and will move forward with a different plan, but will still include them when I consider grading a card from any new collections we purchase or get on consignment. Hoping SGC will decide sooner to make the changes they are talking about within this post.

Thanks Jimmy

I'll be waiting to submit until this is resolved. Fingers crossed they choose the new flip.

I have a card literally coming back in the next few days. Will be interesting to see what I end up with.

I'm sure it's trivial though.
Mike,

I think you might need to get a copy of The Urban Dictionary.
We tragically unhip might just say something like "stay the course" or "keep on keepin' on."

Default SGC Decision on New Design

Wow...I have stated numerous times on this board how SGC's customer service is outstanding. I wanted to wait and see what was determined, but IMO pleased that they will make the change.

More impressive is the feedback from this board...much credit needs to go to Joe G., The Net54 community, SGC Leadership, Leon and moderators...goes to show the credibility of our members, passion for our collections, future of the hobby, and SGC's ability to be flexible enough to make the change.

I'm sure the change over wasn't easy (there is always more to the story), but overall, feel they got it right...again, just my opinion.

PS...I hope Joe G gets credit and some free submissions at the very least.

Hank
