Default Let's See Your Holy Grail - Prize Possession - #1 Item

Only been on NET54 for the past month and haven't had an opportunity to see everyone's Holy Grail - Prize Possession - #1 Card. I don't collect early cards, but this was my prize possession - 1986 Michael Jordan Rookie Card PSA 9, which he signed in 1987. Bought it raw on Ebay for $650. Sent it to PSA. Sold it for $4,000. Let's see yours!

Like always, regretted selling it! But it's what we go through as collectors! I got into Game Used Memorabilia, which was expensive.

Default Probably a tie between these two

The 1953 Topps Mays autograph was obtained by my grandfather sometime in the early 1950's in Milwaukee, WI. He claims it was his rookie year...he's 91 now so I'll give him a pass on that one. The Wagner is a recent addition and downgrade from a PSA 5 that I sold late last year. Still very pleased to own this one

As I have collected cards, historic newspapers, and other artifacts, the holy grail for me was to obtain a contemporary image of Billy The Kid while he was still alive. There is only one known photograph of him, so really this very rare woodcut form an 1881 issue of the Illustrated Police News is the only way to obtain my Grail. Note that it is the same image of the lone famous photo.

Default Great 80s Cards

This was the only card that I put in a toploader when I was a kid. I remember purchasing it from a baseball card store in a mall for some obscene sum like $50-60. When I re-entered the hobby a few years ago, managed to find it at my parents' home and had it holdered for protection.

Only 2 known to exist. This one resides in my 1961 Fleer Hoops Signed set.

Down to only needing 12 signed cards out of the 66 card set. Currently the #1 signed 1961 Set on the PSA/DNA Registry!

I have already owned and sold my holy grail cards: Mino Wagner throwing and Goodwin Kelly. Someday I might be wealthy enough to reacquire them - the two-card Mino set of both Wagner poses, that is generally on ebay, would definitely be mine if I had the funds.

To this day, I remember pulling Tarkenton from the year previous to this one. I bought the pack at a grocery store that was quite a distance from home, and I remember beaming from ear to ear all the way home. I was always a Tarkenton fan - very, very unique for his day.

Just FYI - a second verified photo of Billy the Kid was found recently. Google Billy the Kid photo and you should be able to find an article about it. Some guy bought it in a Fresno shop for $2 and now it's worth millions.

One of the very few images of "the greatest athlete ever produced in the state of Washington", and African American labor leader Ernie Tanner (ca. 1905-07 Tacoma track):

I read a loooong maxazine article about this photo while burning time in Barnes n Nobel recently . Its veracity ( as to depicting the Kid) is very much in question. Interesting stuff, but not verified.

Love the Billy the Kid paper.

Just FYI, that "New Billy the Kid" photo you refer to is as much Billy the Kid as my high school senior picture. That photo will never stand the scrutiny of the public auction market and is just a ploy to try and draw attention to the owner and the National Geographic Channel. Photo is worth about $10 if described correctly "fuzzy picture of random dudes from the 1880's playing croquet".

Always been curious...when cards are just authenticated and not graded, do they still look for the card being trimmed or tampered with? I thought maybe this was only done if graded. Thanks!

With a lot of cards graded 9 and 10 that are evidenced of being trimmed has this been a problem with MJ rookie cards? Not saying that this one is, just a general question. And may be a dumb question at that.
thanks

I guess it's hard to positively identify somebody in an old grainy photo although we still try even here on Net54 (hey, maybe that's really Joe Jackson playing croquet!). We may never know who that really is until we get a positive ear match.. Still, I enjoyed the TV special about it.
