Default vintage fantasy baseball league

I am looking to start up a keeper vintage fantasy baseball league running from 1871 to....

I have Diamond Mind baseball simulation that will be used. This is basically draft league. We will not be playing each game of each season against other managers. The software will do that. As the owner/manager of your team you get to set line ups and pitching rotations. What your strategy preferences are, etc.

Since the span from 1871-1900 has 8 teams most years, we will run a 6 team league until 1901 when the league will expand to 12 teams. We are looking for 3 more people to fill out the league at this time and then 6 more people some time in the future.

If you are interested in playing you can contact me here or use my net54 handle at yahoo dot com.

Jay

What do we need to do to join? I guess technically you could run the simulations for a full season in no time. How does this work?

Jay,
Put me down as a maybe. It would depend on cost, time commitments, etc.

The cost is nothing but your time. There is no time constraint as this is to be a casual thing. Basic rule of the draft is that there will be a time limit from the time a pick is made until the next one is made. The draft for the first season will be the longest as will be drafting an entire team. Following seasons will only involve drafting of players to replace those that were released or retired.

Once the draft is done, it only takes the sim a minute or so to play out a whole season. When we get to 1901 we can set up 2 divisions and a playoff format.

Are you drafting and running simulations on a season by season basis or are you mixing players from different years. For example, Barnes and Stivetts never played together. Also, are you including a pitchers batting stats into the mix? For example, are Hecker's batting stats a part of the simulation? I'd almost have to assume so.

Details, please... this sounds like fun.

It's a season by season thing. The only players eligible for the draft for the 1871 are season are players that played season and the same goes for each year. We will need to hash out minimum games played in real life to determine eligibility, but all of this will be worked out later.

Pitchers hitting stats are used.

those interested in these types of fantasy baseball games should also check out ootp (out of the park baseball). It is far and away the best simulation game around. however, for this particular league, where people may not want to pay money to buy the game, Diamond Mind might work best.

We are still looking for 2 more people to participate. This is a very casual type thing. Drafts will take as long as needed, but shouldn't take too long with an initial 6 team league.

This should be a lot of fun and will give you a chance to test your knowledge of hidden stars of the game. Another highlight is that I know Gilbert Maines will be making numerous post with interesting tidbits of history about the game in the 19c as we progress through the years.

If you are interested, you can PM me here.

We might have one no show right. If I don't hear from him in a few days, I'll contact you. Otherwise, when we get to the year 1901, we will be looking for 6 more people so that we run an AL and NL division.

Thanks for the interest.
