Found this neat Babe Ruth Rookie Year 1914 Boston Americans Schedule by Waitt & Bond Blackstone Cigars, Boston, Mass. which includes his 1st major league appearance.

From BR:

"Ruth made his first Major League appearance on July 11, 1914, less than five months after leaving St. Mary's. He was credited with a 4-3 win over Cleveland(and Shoeless Joe Jackson). However, he did not pitch much over the next few weeks and on August 18th was sent down to the minor league Providence Grays who were in a fight for the International League pennant. "

It's neat because it's made out of the same material the old baseball cards were made of (um cardboard). about 3x6". (4 sides). My rookie Ruth so to speak.

Great schedule, Paul - 1914 combines the rookie year of Ruth with the Miracle year for the Braves a couple of miles away - what a year to be a baseball fan in Boston!

"After finishing in fifth place in 1913 with a record of 69 wins and 82 losses, the Braves hadn't been expected to pose a threat. They spent the first part of the season in last place, posting a record of 26 wins and 40 losses in early July.[3] Led by three pitchers, Dick Rudolph, Seattle Bill James, and Lefty Tyler, the team began to win games, taking over first place for good on September 8.[4] Their record over their final 89 games was 70-19 for a winning percentage of .787.[4] Infielders Johnny Evers and Rabbit Maranville led the league in double plays. The Braves went on to sweep Connie Mack's heavily-favored Athletics in four games in the 1914 World Series.[5] The team became known as the "Miracle" Braves and remain one of the most storied comeback teams in baseball history."

I am trying to find one with a player named Johnny Reder in the line up.

From what I understand it was some difficult years - both financially and on the grass.

Wish I could help Copa7. The 32 Sox were just about the all time low point. Have not seen a 32 team photo. The Sox averaged about 2,300 fans a contest in 32 and they won 43. Then Yawkey saved the day.

Added these to the collection including the 48 phantom.

By the way, I like that Cronin/Speaker photo Blair. That's one I would have grabbed if I saw it. Is that a Horse's Head in the upper left corner?

Here is another 05 Program that I added. I added the back cover as Paragon Park on Nantasket Beach opened that year and it was a big deal. As a kid, our family would go every summer to the amusement park. The park closed in 1985

Thanks 1903 - I am just coming to realize that 1932 SOX photos are rare. Everyone like Champions, but it was also the depression.

Paragon Park and Nantasket Beach was a blast. In the sixties, we'd take the "Nantasket Boat" from Long Wharf. It was absolutely packed with wild kids. The crew was in Hell! Now, nothing but the original carousel remains. Damn progress. Sadly, the old amusement park on Revere Beach met the same fate. I just hope Canobie Lake stays open.

We were lucky kids. Our offspring got the shaft.

The Red Sox have a new "Royal Rooters" display open at Fenway right now; my 1912 hat band is part of the display.

I actually haven't been down to check it out in person, but received the following picture. Looks like the display also has a Ruth bat; not sure what the story is on this bat. There's also a 1912 World Series fob in the picture; curious to go down and take a better look at these displays!

I thought this would be a great way to refresh this fantastic Red Sox thread...

Here is a scan of a rare ticket stub to the historic 1912 World Series game 8 deciding game which won the series for the Boston Red Sox, their 1st at Fenway Park, 100 years ago.

The starting pitchers in this game featured the Red Sox Smoky Joe Wood (34 wins in the regular season + 3 in the World Series in 1912) vs. the Giants' HOF'er Christy Mathewson. Smoky Joe and the Red Sox win game 8 with a final score of 3-2. The Sox win the series 4 games to 3 (one game was called because of darkness in a tie).

The lucky patron noted the final score and the teams on the verso of the ticket stub.

This is a scorebook that contains all of the 1915 Boston v Philadelphia World Series games, including game one in which Ruth makes his first appearance in a World Series game (pinch hit). The scorebook was kept by William Weart, a sportswriter for a Philadelphia paper as well as the Sporting News. He used this scoring (he also noted the attendance and gate receipts in the scorebook) to write his articles for the Sporting News.

I can't say this is from my personal collection, but here is a statue of Cy Young on the spot where the pitcher's mound was located at the Huntington Avenue Grounds. This statue is only a few hundred feet from my office and I pass it all the time. Also, the 1903 World Series wrapped up on this spot on October 13th - which happens to be my birthday.
