Default Anyone know what this is?

Posted By: Jerry

I found this in a house that I demolished recently and it was underneath the carpet on the second floor in a closet. Can anyone tell me what it is and how much it is worth?? And why their is a red stripe at the bottom of it? The last card is Babe Ruth, but I thought Babe Ruth was a batter? Why is he pitching? I took a couple pics of it so you guys can see. The only thing that I can tell is that maybe some water got to the top of the card in the right corner where there is a little black stain.(The closet was near the bathroom) I dont know much about this stuff, but I do collect nellie fox items. Take a look and I need some opinions. Thanks guys

Although Babe Ruth was a pitcher early in his career I think it is more likely that this photo shows him making warmup throws in the outfield.

1930's- era carpet likely a W517 strip
1970's- above... likely a W517 reprint

That carpet sample would have to be authenticated to know for sure.

Looks like you have found a gem! A 1931 W517 uncut strip of 3 including a hard to get Ruth #4 throwing card! This is certainly authentic because the reprints were made in the year 1998 and they have the W-517 print on the lower left hand corner and the back of the strip is pure white. The color of the stripe on the back I think entitled the purchaser to another piece of candy, but I can honestly say I havent seen a ruth card with a stripe on the back, and I deal with alot of these.(let alone a ruth uncut strip) Looking to sell?

Do you need to pull up all the carpet before demolishing a house?
