Default 1951 Topps Baseball Ad...

Posted By: Jeff Shepherd

Just pulled this ad out from my collection - published May 8th, 1951. I don't know all that much about this series, but found it interesting that the cards were packaged with a candy bar of some sort. They appear to be Redbacks, with a 51 Topps Connie Mack Christy Mathewson hiding behind Phil Rizzuto. Were Connie Macks issued alongside Redbacks? Also, note the rounded corners on the Mathewson - are they ever found that way? Enjoy...

edited to add publishing date.

There was an article recently in Old Cardboard on the distribution of 51 Topps cards. The Connie Mack All Stars were packaged with the regular cards. I can't remember for sure, but I believe the article said you could buy a few of the regular cards (maybe two?) with one All Star, or the complete set with one (or maybe a few) All Stars.

I've never heard of rounded corners on the All Stars.

Neat ad. Where did you find it?

Old Cardboard back issues are on the Xmas list. This came out of a retailer publication.

I have all 5 of the 1951 Topps sets done...minus the 3 unissued Current All Stars, plus an unopened blue and red back pack, and one of those rack packs that have a full set of the reds, a game card and one of the Connies and Team cards in it
