Default W590 Bobby Jones

Posted By: Kyle Bicking

Hello Vintage Collectors. I was recently introduce to network54 after a post on Beckett.com's message boards and am happy to see what this site has to offer.

I am in the process of trying to find more information on this wacky W590 strip card set, in particular my two Robert T. Jones (Bobby Jones) cards. I'm attempting to have the authenticated by PSA, but PSA has very little info on them and can not grade, for now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. So far, my research is as follows:

SGC has graded one of these already. They've also graded one Walter Hagen.

MastroNet auctioned off a large lot several years ago with both the Jones and the Hagen in the lot. Sadly, the larger image is no longer availbe, but the preview is. The bottom row, second to right is the Jones card (you can see the outline of his body just like on the two cards I submitted). To view, go to this link: http://catalog.mastronet.com/index.cfm?action=DisplayContent&ContentName=Lot%20Information&LotIndex=32342#photographs

CSA Auctions also has these available on their site: http://www.csauctions.com/online_store/pages/GolfMemorabiliaandCards1.html (Click on W590)

Regards,
Kyle Bicking

Kyle: Information regarding the w590 strip card set is available on the Old Cardboard website - a link for this site is near the center, top of our homepage.

I have no knowledge specific to cards of golfers, but if SGC will grade your card and PSA will not, well that seems reasonable to me as a way to proceed.

Kyle,
Did you submit your card to PSA or just call? I recently noticed this PSA graded "Hand Cut" - 1925-31 W590 Babe Ruth on eBay (item 8727091683 - http://cgi.ebay.com/1925-31-W590-Babe-Ruth-Hand-Cut-PSA-Authentic_W0QQitemZ8727091683QQcategoryZ31718QQssP ageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). The image is no longer on the auction but maybe the seller can tell you when he had it graded. I hope this helps.
Jason

Hi there,

I did submit the card to PSA, but it was not graded. I was able to get in touch with a very helpful customer service rep who is working with me to get it authenticated. Problem is that they need more information on the card, or if available, a check for the W590 cards. A scan of the checklist would pretty much guarantee they'll grade them.

Thanks,
Kyle
