Default Lou Gehrig Premium? With Image.

I have what looks to be a Lou Gehrig Premium of some sort. Basically an 8 x 10 B&W photo, blank back with a facsimile autograph in blue. I'll try and get a picture up but does that ring a bell for anyone?

Apparently not.) However, there is probably a good chance someone will know if you can get a pic up...We have a lot of good sleuths on the forum.

Wow, nothing with over 500 views. It is definitely not a new piece as there is toning on the back that wold be nearly impossible to fake, but I guess it could be 1950's, or possibly 60's

Probably 400 views were prior to you uploading the photo. Give it a little bit. The blue facsimile signature looks really bright to me compared to a 40's item. So my guess would be that it was from the 70s or newer. Did you blacklight test it?

Not really impatience, more surprise. I don't make a habit of asking questions like this because if I come across something I haven't seen before I can usually find it on my own. Came up empty this time.

Also, I can't find my stupid black light (Its stupid because I can't find it...) but I would've checked that first thing. If I do find it I'll post results.

I've followed Gehrig stuff pretty closely for a number of years and ain't ever seen that before. Which is probably of zero help in assessing whether it is rare and valuable, new and not valuable, or something in between.

Not expecting to hit the mother load. It came in, in a consignment that had stuff from all eras though so hard to pinpoint it.

It looks like a 1970s-1990s commemorative piece to me but that is just a guess.

I would agree with that. It looks aged before it was reproduced.

So is it now safe to say "wow?" Even if it is a modern piece I figured someone would identify it. I still don't think it's brand new because there are several different shades of toning in defined areas on the back as if it was in a stack of papers upside down for years.

Because of the lack of quality of the photo I am sticking to my commemorative thought. Here is Lou and Babe in a period rppc....

Hi Scott,

Your photo looks just like the one that Heritage had up for sale. The only difference is that yours has a signature. Don't know if sig is real or not, but here is the link. Hope this helps.

Here's one being offered on eBay. The seller believes it's a 1940s premium, and I think that's as good a guess as any. Curiously, this one has the signature printed in black vs. blue.

Definitely NOT live ink or I would've been a lot more excited!

His and mine are both obviously reprints of the wire photo that heritage sold as they are much lower quality. Was just hoping for a definitive era. Hard to believe in this day and age it is so hard to track down!

I could see it being a late 1940s piece. At least there has been a little more info ascertained. Here is a 1948/9 Leaf Premium that has sort of the same looking print to it. (not mine) I should add, most of the later 1940s grainy looking pictures don't look quite as grainy as yours. The Homogenized Bread Premiums from the same year also look just a bit crisper.

"Hard to believe in this day and age it is so hard to track down!"

For me, one of the best things about this hobby is that there is always something new to be discovered. I suspect we'll eventually figure out what your photo is.
