Default Which Matty is most purdy?

Posted By: James Feagin

Unlike you rich guys, I only have the $$$ to grab one Matty in mid-grade. For the money (400-500) which of the following would you grab in terms of design, grade, and overall value?

1.) t206 Matty (Dark Cap) in SGC 40-50ish
2.) t205 Gold Border in SGC 40-50ish
3.) t202 Hassan Triple Folder in SGC 50-60ish
4.) t201 Mecca Double Folder in SGC 60-70ish
5.) Write in?

Thanks pals....

James

I would take the T205, but if the chance was there you can't wrong with the M116.

They're all great cards. I'd probably go with the dark cap t-206, though. I like seeing the uniforms.

You could find one of the M116 in the PSA 2 or 3 range for $400 or $500, but others may feel differently.

From your list, T205 is pretty (I'm secure enough to say that); off list, the T206 dark cap is great (oops, it's on your list), and the s81 is one of my favorites..

from the list, easily the t205. I have to admit to a slight bias towards it since it was one of the first t205s I ever bought. Cost me a whole $15 for EX one back in 1982.

The m116 is also a great looking card.

Christy Matthewson's E102 (horiz) card. How can you beat
that colorful sunset behind his follow-thru pose.

Yep, and it's the same on the E101 and E92 I believe.

You are right about the E92 being the exact pix of
Matty as the E102. I never have had an E101 Matty.
What does the back of the E101 look like ?

I,m with the E92 guys, because you get both face and motion....for the face alone you can't beat the T205 (T202).

Ted,

Here's the E101 front and back. The front is identical to the E101 and E102. However, the back of the E101 is generic with no advertising. Notice that the end of the back ends in a comma, not a period. One theory is that this set was a test issue for the E92 set (the top part of the backs are identical). No advertising had been added (Dockman & Sons).

This one is in the BST, but since it is on topic, here is the T205:

Sorry Julie, I am postally inept. Plus I can not yet brag of ownership of such a prize.

Our moderator, and I think Dan both have examples and are postal (that is not the machine gunning, lose our mail type) capable.

If any of the above is clear, please advise me.

And yes, it is commemorative, but spectacular. Well, in my humble opinion it clearly compliments all of the inadequacies which preceeded it. And artfully adds its own.

ANSON

Thanks for your pix of the Matty. I really appreciate it.

It also reminded me of why I never collected E101 cards.
I already had quite a few E92's. The E101 fronts appeared
to be the same as the E92's, but the backs were anonymous.
