Default 1966-67 Orr RC

So I have a question re grading

I have owned the above mentioned card sonce about 1984 when I purchased at a garage sale for 50cents. yes really

Problem being as I was young and it was also the thing to do, I placed it in a screwdown case where it has been until I just recently got re interested in the hobby

Have now read that PSA grades these as Authentic only SO..

Which company would be the better choice

SGC or Beckett ?

I will upload pics when I get home.

Thanks in Advance

Damon

FWIW, I had a couple 80s cards in screwdown holders that have been that way since the 1980s, and last year one came back a PSA 10 and the other a 9. So, the screwdown does not necessarily alter the card corners. I guess you won't know until cards are submitted, but just figured I would mention it.

i guess if I submit to PSA and get the Authentic I could crack it and resubmit to another grader.

I all depends on how tight/hard you screwed the card down in the cube?
If you just did it lightly, or just enough to hold the card in place, there is a good chance all will be fine, but if you overtightened it, there is a good chance, from either TPG, imo, it will come back as an "Authentic" copy.

Good luck. That's a heck of a card that I wish I certainly had!

If I "pre-grade" it at home any ideas what i look for as to the damage that would make it Authentic?

You’ll want to look for things like if the edges are more compressed the closer to the corners you get. Also, if you sheen the card under a light source, there can be differences in the gloss as you get near the corners or some instances of white spotting. Post a pic when you can. Here’s a topps gretzky I have that was in a screwdown and I bought in a PSA authentic altered holder.

Good looking card, good luck! And what are you gonna do with it, sell or keep?

Good luck, and please keep us informed on how it grades out?
Fingers crossed for you it receives a number and not an "A".

Yes, the problem is getting a decent grade is gonna be a decent cost.

Gotta save some $$ before sending in

I don't know if you're only considering PSA now, but if you're not I'd go with SGC for the $85 grading fee and a declared value of $3499. These cards look great in SGC slabs.

I had a Gretzky RC and several 1964-65 Topps that had been in screwdowns for several decades and they all received number grades at PSA. As mentioned above, it totally depends on the specific holder and how much pressure was applied...and possibly also the mood of the specific grader you get on the specific day....
