Hey Brent,

It'll be nice to have a boxing forum/area to post in.

With boxing, I mostly collect caramels, but I'm interested in many different issues.

Look forward to good discussions over here!

Robert

Glad to see some boxing card collectors. I primarily collect 19th century boxing cards Kimball N184, Mayo N310, Old Judge etc.... Looking forward to learning from this forum, and additionally doing some buying/selling/trading.

The name's David Hanvey. I'm 31 and live in Australia.

The focus of my collecting is to obtain one card from every boxing set released, starting with the era 1886 to 1936. Currently I'm probably 60% or so complete, which excludes about half dozen issues where only one card is known to exist.

My secondary aim to collect every Aussie boxing card released. I also like to pick up a 19th century issue every now and then (even if I have that type).
I also just decided to start working on a set, so I started on the T219's (only 32 to go !)

This list is a work in progress (design and cross checking information yet to be completed): www.boxingcarddigest.com/cardsets1936frontsonly.html

I've been working on a few sets as well, ever since Mr. Warshaw sucked me in with that damn book of his about 3 years ago. If you don't have it I highly, highly recommend it.
I'm working on T220 and T9 sets, while constantly upgrading T218 and '48 Leaf sets. And I just picked up an E75 set and should start working on upgrades of that pretty soon.
Great to see everyone here!
Anthony

Hi,

I started collecting boxing cards while trying to complete my n28 set. Brached out into others, mostly just pick up whatever cathes my eye. My favorite is the Mayo's Cut Plug N310. I also like the 1901 Ogden's. Always looking to upgrade my N28s.

I first got started about 15 years ago and love the cards and the history. Been looking forward to this site.

I got started when I got a T-218 with James J. Jeffries' autograph in pencil on his card. Then I went looking for the rest of the T-218 set. Way back I was able to buy the complete set at auction for a decent price. That would be very hard to do today.

Favorite boxer has always been Stanley Ketchel(sp). Alan I thought Ketchel was Jewish. Am I wrong?

Best
Gary

Hello all, I'm glad to participate in a dedicated boxing card forum! My name is Randy S. Fruneaux and I'll try to share what I can about this great hobby of ours. Last night I watched a show on ESPN about the 10 greatest knock out punches and then thought wheather I had a card of each boxer, hmmm, well no because some of the picks where from modern day fights and I only collect the vintage material... shall I expand the collecting efforts, time will tell. Randy

I pulled out some of my old Mecca/Hassan boxing cards in response to your post on Jewish boxers. I never really focused on religion/ethnic origin. Abe Goodman, Al Kaufman, Abe Attell. Are they on the list?

Who is the greatest Jewish boxer of all time?

David

David - This should give you a start.

http://www.jewishsports.com/jewsin/history/boxinghistory.htm

Who was the greatest Jewish boxer is a great question. The following guys (in no particular order) are in that discussion:

Benny Leonard
Lew Tendler
Abe Attell
Barney Ross
Maxie Rosenbloom
Sid Terris
Jackie Fields

Adam & the others could problably give you an accurate analysis taking into consideration who they fought, weightclass, etc,...

Hope that helps.
Alan

Leonard had 7 years during the gretest period of Jewish lightweights. Ross was a 2 division champ who had to beat two of the very best (McLarnin and Canzoneri). Attell was so good that he could throw or win fights at will.
