Default How to cut the Clay from a Hemmets panel?

So I have a full panel graded VG. It's hard to tell, but I think the Clay is in nicer condition than the panel as a whole (a crease elsewhere could explain the grade) and I thought maybe I should try to cut the Clay and submit it individually as there seems to be some potential upside and not much downside to doing that. But it looks to be a delicate daunting task with very little margin for error if any. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am not sure a printer is the right answer, the one time I took something there they didn't do a very good job. Thanks.

Rob England (Wrestling Card King)

He is awesome at cutting cards. I saw one he recently cut and it looked great. I would contact him or perhaps he will see this thread.

Printers do not have the equipment to cut a random single piece.

Go to a person that does framing and matting. They have the proper tools. Now if you can get one to do it is another question.

Thanks for the compliment, what is funny is that I think he is referencing an item that I made an offer on yesterday.... :-)

Good luck!

Correct. And I told you that I was rethinking selling it outright because I wanted to look into whether I should cut the single. I'll probably end up just selling it unless I can find someone to partner with because I don't want to cut it myself.

Thanks Rob I appreciate that. Obviously I'm hoping to entice someone to go higher than that but I won't give it too long.

The notion that you can increase the value exponentially by cutting it off an original item into a form that was never intended is a bit strange to me.

With that sort of price difference there won't be any panels left.

Cut from a panel and it gets a PSA10? There has been so much gnashing of teeth about a PSA8 T206 Wagner cut from a panel. They even wrote a book about it because it caused such angst! Makes me think the guy that only got a PSA8 on the T206 Wagner got ripped off! Sometimes this hobby really makes no sense.

Here are images of the PSA 10 card that recently sold. It just bothers me that the word "Journal" can be cut off like that at the top, and it's still considered a 10. But I guess the people with the money have spoken.

The word Journal isn't really intended to go with the Clay card anyhow, in my opinion, so who really cares. Still a strange concept to me that the cut version is worth so much more than the original item, but that's how it goes. I'll probably get one myself in midgrade someday.
