T206 Question: Relative Scarcity of HOFers and SLers
I've noticed that some of the HOFer's cards seem to be less plentiful than others (this is only based on perusing auction listings, so it could just be that certain cards are offered for sale less often). I've started to work on the Slers as well, and figured this would be a good time to ask you guys which HOF and SL cards seem to be tougher to find than the rest. Thanks a lot.

Doesn't seem hard to find Cobb or Mathewson. Johnson might be a bit trickier. I don't have any data or anything, that's just what I've seen on Ebay.

This question is right up my alley. In the T206 set, the HOFers that were only printed in the 150 Series are the toughest & cost more than their regular version cards. They are Mordecai Brown & Johnny Evers both in Cub shirt only variations. Of course your Cobbs, Youngs, Johnsons, Mathewsons, & Speaker were better players so they generally would cost more. The question on Southern Leaguers comes up often on net 54 & it's a tough question to answer because there have been different opinions. It seems like the Shaughnessy is the most popular & the most expensive of the Southern Leaguers. Some people may base it on pop reports which can be misleading. My feeling the most expensive Southern Leaguers which goes by sales over the years in this order are Shaughnessy, Foster, Marion, Persons, & Carey. Hope these answers help.

As for SLers, I would also add Bay & Hooker.

Magie also seems to be a tough common to pick up as well.

Best source of info that I've ever found on this (and other T206) topic is Scot Reader's book ... it rates the relative scarcity of all T206s against each other and provides a ranked list.

The ranked list was omitted in the most recent version. Tracking down the earlier version is a bit of a challenge but worth the effort.

Another really tough hall of famer is sam crawford (throwing pose). Last i saw, there were only 4 higher than a psa 7, all psa 8's, and one of those was an 8oc.

I think one of the toughest southern leaguers is sid smith. Only 5 have been graded higher than a psa 6!

SLers
I'm thinking Bill Bernhard and Ed Foster are two toughies in the SLer subset...
