Chatroom id hi-jackings

I was wondering why the chatroom has been dead all month, but decided to participate tonight and now it is no longer a mystery: hi-jackings of guest ids by someone mentioning Elliot's name, but being very vague about it. If it is in fact Elliot - shame on you. If not, the bastard has been very effective in discouraging use of the chatroom.

As soon as Scott Cowan's board is set up, I will heartily recommend that everyone jump the Net54 ship and go to Cowan54. Considering the hi-jackings and malignant popups, I don't even think it is terribly safe participating on Net54.

I used to participate on a somewhat regular basis in chatroom discussions. I rarely do now. It is tough because of the ID Hi-Jinx. It is just simply not worth the trouble, but I still try every once in a while.

Unless someone has actually figurted out elliot's password, anyone signed in under "guest" with someone's handle is prolly suspect. If you logion, there is no question as to who is in the chatroom.

Nothing is terribly safe......and I am sure Elliot doesn't/wasn't playing stupid, childish games in the chat room. The good thing about years of friendship is that you get to know people fairly well....good, bad, or indifferent.....later

myself and Pat. Someone started posting using my name and admonishing me for not logging in. Also id'd himself as Elliot twice.

I used to log in until one night two of us were logged in and chatting merrily away, then when I switched over to the Mastro auction I was logged in already - as the other guy in the chatroom. And it also turned out that he was logged in as me, and had bid on several very expensive non-baseball lots that I had no interest in. So no - I will not log in to the chatroom, regardless of what others tell me about the above situation being impossible. I was told that this is an inherent problem of online chats - information is passed continuously and is available to others, even when seemingly hidden.

And, Leon, we all love Elliot and appreciate what he's done. I say that again, because any time anyone makes a complaint or suggest an improvement, the thread turns into an "Elliot appreciation" thread ad nauseum, and this thread is meant to be a "bitching about hi-jacking" thread.

Just to clarify....It was not me in the chat room recently. I have not been in the chat room in over a month and was unaware of the problems. I'll see what can be done.

a few days ago a guy named guest_acowa was using profanity and insulting others in the chat room. i think he identified himself as being a friend of botn.
