I've come across about 8 of these cards in excellent shape for sale.

#35 Tinker
#98 Hoffman
#30 Mullins
#25 McEntyre
#5 Crawford
#87 Collins
#28 H. McEntyre
#11 Dalhen

Can anyone give me an estimate on what I should offer for these?

Thanks,
Marc

Marc, the HOFers you mentioned would probably easily be in the $2000 range assuming they are excellent condition as in PSA 5 condition.

The others I would put at about $1000 in the same condition.

Kind of tough to go with a "fair" offer...if they would come back 4's or 50's you've lost money on the deal.

Dave, so you are saying roughly 12k for all 8 cards? About 2k for Tinker, Crawford and Collins and 1k for each of the others?

If you think they will grade PSA4, you can justify paying $350 each, or maybe even more, for the commons. If the McIntyre is the Brooklyn only variation, it's worth a little more. For the Hofers, maybe three times as much for those two. If you are confident they will grade PSA5, which is risky as PSA is very inconsistent on Turkey Reds, you could, of course, go higher. Are you planning on flipping them?

I think it would be very risky to pay what Dave is suggesting, unless you are EXTREMELY confident they will grade PSA5. Even at that, PSA5 commons don't hit the $1000 mark that consistently. Also, Collins is a very easy card to find, which tends to deep his value down a bit. I wouldn't count on getting $2000 for him, even in PSA5.

Mark, I can't guarantee what these cards look like. I just had an elderly lady call me on the telephone about them. They have been in her family and now her possession since they were first issued 96 years ago. She said they were in excellent shape. From talking to her, she is wanting big money for them but didn't know what they were worth. If I get them, I would be willing to flip most of them.

Mark...I could be wrong..but the last Collins I think went in the Goodwin auction for $2183 w/o the juice. It was a 60.

It's tough to say with ungraded T3's IMO. Very risky depending on what they grade. I'm not sure why the seller woudn't have had them graded himself.

Just keep in mind that most people not actively involved in the hobby tend to overstate the condition of their cards. You might be disappointed when you see them. Then again, they could be great.

It definately would be safer to give her a figure worth more that they would all grade at 4's...I just figured this was some dealer that had them that wouldn't have let them go for less.

about an elderly lady saying they are in excellent shape could go either way.

She could be saying "my eyes are not that good anymore and they "look" to be in EX shape

or

I don't know much about them them, they turn out to be in MINT shape.

only one way to find out, go see them.

Goodluck, let us see some pics if you get them.

Marc - Keep in mind a Mint looking card w/ a pin/nail/tack hole
will grade no higher then a PSA-1 or an SGC-10/20 even though it
presents well.

Here is a card I just purchased & will picking up in Cleveland
its a solid PSA-4 - use this in determining if her cards are
nicer or in worse condition.

Jay, you're just looking for an excuse to show your Johnson.

BTW, Crawford is one of the easiest HOFer's, $2000 for him in PSA 5 is possible, but the card better be very high-end.

Jeff

I was just trying to quickly generalize. I think the Tinker could possibly go a bit higher than 2k for a 5.

I know you were Dave, and I agree with your numbers, just thought that Crawford info could be useful in general.

To folks not in the hobby excellent could really be poor or nrmt. No way to tell.....they may be excellent but for the tiny piece missing ...or they may be excellent and really be awesome....no way to tell except in person...imho. I have had many of both situations....Non hobbyists don't know what technicalities to look for whereas the grading companies do...(most times).....If a non hobbyist says "excellent" shape to me I tend to think of a vg'sh card....
