Default Dr. John (1941-2019)

I was a huge fan of Mac Rebennack, better known to us as Dr. John. I have most of his early albums, and saw him live several times. His first album Gris-Gris is, IMO, a classic, and sounds unlike anything else I've ever heard.

Dr. John died last night at 77. Any other fans on the board?

I took a right move, but made it at the wrong time.
I'd have said the right thing, but I must have used the wrong line.

Immortal lyric.

That was his most famous song, but not necessarily his most creative work. I have been a huge fan of his debut album Gris-Gris since I purchased it in 1968, and will say whether you like it or not, if you listen to it you can easily agree that is unlike anything you've ever heard before (unless of course you are from New Orleans and steeped in the culture and music). I find it mesmerizing. It was ranked 143 on Rolling Stones list of top 500 albums of all time.

Losing him and Leon Redbone in a week is brutal for music fans of a certain depth.
