William J. O'Neil... a beater of a ball player as well. Six errors in one game!

Scanning preferences
I find scanning beat up cards more fun than ones in better shape.

Obviously, I am in the minority on this forum.
I have absolutely no attraction to or appreciation for lesser condition cards, much less beaters. I would rather continue the search than settle for less than my targeted standards. The search has almost been as enjoyable as finally attaining those targets and always looking for upgrades just isn't the same. But you guys enjoy your beaters...I won't get in your way - and you can have all the brussel sprouts too. . .

This is as close as I get to a beater card.
I still love it, though.

I was at Spring Training when this thread started so I am glad to see it revived so I can add some of my favorites.
First up is an uber-rare die cut Zeenut: The second card was found at the National a few years ago. Personally, I believe this was originally part of the Ed Norton collection. Opinions? The final card I obtained from a fellow Net54 member as part of a Lot purchase. It really appeals to my OBCish sense of humor: Dave Fallen |

What's worse than a "beater"?
What's worse is finding out that your "beaters" aren't even authentic...which was the case with 16 of the 27 vintage cards I just sent in to Beckett Grading. This is a bummer . They just mark them "Questionable Authenticity" with no explaination. That was my question, that's why I sent them in. Does this mean that they are fake for sure? Any ideas?
Thanks. |
