Default VintageBall -- New Web Site

Posted By: VintageBall

Hi all—

A quick posting to let you know that a new site, VintageBall (http://www.vintageball.com), has launched, focusing on “Historical Baseball Through Vintage Postcards, Type Cards, Photographs and Memorabilia.”

And, no this is not a commercial enterprise – it’s purely informational.

As of now, the following areas are live (with others in-progress), with special thanks to a bunch of Networkk54 Vintage Board members who have contributed:

--What's This page -- a monthly showcase of unidentified items in search of user input. Current mysteries (partially solved) include an intriguing caramel card and a 1908 Boston Red Sox postcard featuring a name that appears in none of the literature perused. (As a matter of fact, many other unidentified objects are and will be sprinkled throughout the site, with links/forms for users to provide info).

--Hal Chase page -- featuring tons of Chase ephemera, including a gallery of news photos and two "albums" of tobacco, caramel and bakery cards, along with an interesting Leslie's magazine excerpt and more.

--Baseball Postcards section – the main topic page is live, with baseball postcard history dating back to the first baseball post cards.

--Player Postcard Gallery -- a host of rare pre-war cards from Novelty Cutlery, Grignon, Topping, Sporting News, Case Cars and many, many more.

--Real Photo Postcard Gallery – featuring an assortment of major league, minor league, semi-pro and town teams and players

--Ballpark Postcard Gallery – this section showcases some of the great old parks, including pre-war cards of the Boston Braves, Red Sox, Brooklyn Dodgers, Cubs, White Sox, Indians, Reds, Tigers, New York Giants, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Athletics and Pittsburgh Pirates ballfields.

--Memorabilia section – first page is live, focusing on Player-Authored books.

--Favorite Finds -- a special column on interesting discoveries. The first two installments already are up, with three more on the way.

--Photo page -- currently being built, but 11 unidentified Brooklyn baseball photos circa 1908-1915 are posted as a placeholder, just waiting to be identified by knowledgeable visitors.

--Links Page

More stuff is coming soon (hopefully), including more photo pages, a type cards section and more memorabilia pages.

Most importantly, VintageBall has been built to be used as a tool for research and information, so user input is solicited throughout, along with requests for users to share their own favorite finds and unidentified items to be showcased.

Any feedback and input would be most welcome, as would any good stories or any unidentified items of interest. Also welcome are any photos of items you think would fit in well on this new site.

Cheers,

RobertS

Just wanted to thank everyone who stopped by to check out the new site and especially those who helped solve two unidentified item mysteries.

Also, I wanted to let you all know a new "What's This?" item has been uploaded for March -- an odd Connie Mack premium or insert.

All the best

RobertS

Very nice site. I like the post cards you have. I can't wait for Jay Miller to tell us about his favorite "find"
